Salute Gents!

This game has stunning graphics and pretty good flight models, but there could be a few features added that would make it really good.  Two things are severly lacking in this sim, but I hope they can be added soon.  One is the lack of mouse look.  This is really immersive when you can pan around the cockpit ala EAW.  Also there needs to be the same capability outside the plane for looking around.

The other item is a padlock, while some might say it is a crutch, in reality you would automatically swivel your head with an enemy plane so it is realistic.  I would also like to see better flight models, most of the planes seem to only take off if you run them off the cliff.

MORE PLANES PLEASE, namely the 190 A4 which is a much better dogfighter than the A8 and gives German pilots another choice than the 109's but I am sure you guys are working on that already.  The ones you already have are SPIFFY.  Awesome skins, terrain and sky/clouds, breathtaking really.  Good Work!

Um....no they're not.

You get external views that's all.  No padlock, no 190A4.

besides, we want them in the Arena, not in the training room.

padlock?
we dinane need no STINKIN PADLOCK!

manually move ya head around your cockpit while ya turn, just like they did.  Shouldna take too long for your fingers to learn to dance on the keypad (for when ya need oblique views ya haven't put on your stick =)

I think the Problem with Take off's is the need for longer runways(for the B17) ALL fighters take off fine on the current runways, providing you know what you are doing... heh

External views???? hello! this is not an arcade game...

Mouse pan??? your not gona be mouse paning in a fight. keyboard pan works fine for finding targets if you cant handle the fixed vies.

Padlock??? why would you want to limit your attention to one plane when his 3 buddies are aslo trying to trim your tail feathers? I gues it might help guys who only fly with a $20 joystick, but you would die fast from using it...

Here! Here! Isn't this why there is a Fighter Ace and AW (RR) ???
I'm very confident there will be no dumbing down of AH with this padlock, external or "no dashboard/cockpit in the view" crap!

Yep, that is really an interesting question. can anyone explain to me the reasons behind that useless (in my opinion) feature.

Your right Vermillion. I forgot about auto take-off.

Whelp. Let me restate my position. <ahem>

The auto takeoff function allows new target drones to get into the air that much faster.

Salute Gents,

Actually I think you guys are the ones that don't get it, if I were flying a plane I would swivel my head around smoothly to keep track of an enemy plane.  Snap views are a POOR substitute, and mouselook is a much better one.  I can move my head about the cockpit easily to ANY angle to keep track of enemy planes using mouselook.

As to the external views that wasn't a gameplay issue but would be nifty for taking those cool screenshots.  Padlock is what you would do if you WERE concentrating on an enemy plane to destroy it.  I surely didn't intimate that one would do this to the exclusion of looking over one's shoulder to make sure someone else doesn't have the same thing in mind for you.  Situational awareness is a must in any combat flight sim.

Another issue, I didn't post here to be flamed by immature people that disagree with me.  I may disagree with your opinions but don't deride or degrade you for it.  I may disagree with you for what you are saying but you certainly have the right to be heard, please afford me the same courtesy.

Lastly I flew online the last couple of nights learning the controls and behavior of the planes, multiple times I was attacked while minding my own business in the TRAINING  server.  I thought people were supposed to be learning something there.  How to get shot down while you are reading your map ala "MSN Zone" is not the lesson I was trying for.

If your method of teaching is vulching people while doing touch and go's it isn't going to endear them to the service.  In addition if you need to attack people without inviting them into a duel, then I may suspect that this is the only way you can get kills.  Racking up a huge score against unsuspecting opponents is no way to behave, and certainly not a tribute to any piloting skills.

From now on I will be doing my flight tests offline until some maturity is manifest on the training server.  Multiple times I was flying straight and level, having declined to duel with someone since I was on autopilot and setting up my joystick in flight, and was shot down anyway.

A couple of times they didn't even bother to wait for an answer, "Ready, GIJeff?"  BOOM!  Don't even bother trying to tell me that THIS is the way you learn to fly.  It isn't.  It is the way you learn to behave dishonorably, and I have no use for it.  If you can't respect the people you are flying against or with, you may soon find yourself without anyone to fly against or with.

"From now on I will be doing my flight tests offline until some maturity is manifest on the training server."

The Training Arena is pretty new, and there isn't a protocol for it yet, so people are just doing whatever seems "appropriate" at the moment.

We do have some trainers now, who will be glad to set up whatever situation you want to work on.  Check the roster when you join the Training Arena, and if there is someone from the "Aces High Instructor Corps" online.  Give him a shout, and he will work with you.

If you want to set something up in advance, post your prefered times in the Help and Training Forum.

My apologies if your start in AH has been less than optimum.  Padlock is a very hot topic on this UBB.  You had no way of knowing this.

You can't believe what I have been called in the past for being a proponent of "Padlock".  The fear factor is so high over the possible implementation that even some fairly nice people instantly become real jerks.

For the rest of your ideas, some of them kind of go against the contemporary grain for most of the current players in the game.  Often players will immediatly transmit an attitude towards you, because you have stated your opinion that is contrary.

This attitude has amazed me from day one.  The attitude being, "I can't really fault your opinion, so I will just insult you".  It seems to be worse for new players.  In reality it is more like playful teasing, please consider it to be so.

If you do decide to re-enter the Training Arena look for a person who is a member of "The Trainer Corps" squadron.  The AcesHigh trainers are members of this squadron.

To find a trainer follow this formula:
  • Press the Esc key - This brings up the "Knee Board" with the map as the default screen.
  • Select the Roster button on the bottom of the screen - The screen changes to the roster screen
  • Select the Squad button on the top of the screen - This organizes the roster by squadron, the default list order is by player names
  • Use the scroll slider to find a person who is a member of "The Trainer Corps" squad
Or, just ask on the global chat channel if any trainers are on-line.  Like Popeye said, "Give us a shout!"

These people are players like myself have agreed to help new players along.  We will usually be more than willing to answer your questions, practice ACM with you or help you out anyway we can.  Our desire is your smooth transistion into AcesHigh and the maximizing of your enjoyment.

Good Luck!

the problem with it is automation.

wb sucks for intercepting and fighting bombers because their defense is automated.
AH rocks because you know your fighting a human

padlock  automates the pilots ability to keep track of a target. snap views are much closer to how a pilot swivels his head in a fight,

your head snaps around and your eyes track, same as real life.

I just hate it when stuff is unrealistic
