TBM Avenger rear upper gun
« on: January 19, 2001, 03:42:00 AM »
Is the gun on the TBM correct? Didn't it have twin fifties? If it didn't I'm sure that the gunner wasn't positioned off to one side. The gun(s) should be straight forward of the gunner.

Actually, some pilots had their single 50s removed, and had twin 303s installed. However, in the MA since 303s do jackshitte against anything, I would prefer the single 50.

You might want to do a bit of research next time.

The TBM turret looks correct to me, based on my references. Single .50, offset to one side.

Not in the Avenger; I think you are confused with another aircraft...probably the SBD.

The turret is correct.  The gunner isn't actually off to the side.  It only appears that way because there isn't a gun on the right side.
