With all due respect AK, I was there. There is a whole lot to this story you apparently were not witness to. I don't think this flame war needs to happen here or anywhere, but that does not mean the parties involved don't have valid points to make. The best thing to happen IMHO is the whole thing drops right here. If a guy just comes in and flies, regardless of his past, then all should be ok.

What pissed people off was NOT so much that TAS was a LIE and that no such program exists (other than as a dream of "voss" and mebbe a hundred or so lines of code... and oh yeah, some faked up screen shots), but the fact that Paul "Voss" HInds claimed to be a real-life F-16 pilot who had some kills to his credit and that his exploits are so secrety, he couldn't reveal any details so they could be checked.

Paul Hinds isn't evil, he's just a wannabe who inflated his life Walter Middy-style. IMO, he should just admit that he did so, and we can all move on.

I was around back then.  I was playing Warbirds back then.  I didn't participate in the whole scene because I'd already seen what Eidos' Confirmed Kill had done.  

This thread was started based on false assumptions.  Yeah.. the grand master liar was bashing a REAL pilot.  Of course, the person was not a pilot and basically instigated the fight by being rather insulting simply because voss posted something he didn't agree with.  Now, we get to sit here and re-hash the past yet again as if it really mattered in this situation.

Voss has lost credibility from his past behaviour.  In order to be taken seriously, things he says needs to be backed up by documentation or supported by people that are still considered credible.  I understand that.  I don't feel that gives people a license to start threads like this.

I also refuse to accept that voss caused the riff that occured with TAS.  Unless it was voss vs everyone.  I don't remember that being the case.  I do believe that people that stuck up for voss in any of those situations were embarrased by the whole ordeal and those things are hard to forget.  The main thing was is that people ruined relationships based on arguments about a fricking game.  That was not Voss's fault.  That was the result of a seriously skewed sence of priorities.  The blame lies equally with those that felt the need to fan the flames on both sides of the argument.

Its time more people start taking responsibility for the arguments or situations that tear this community apart.  Its not one person's fault... as much as you'd like to place blame.

[edit]It does seem that everyone has forgotten the battles that raged on the newsgroups about TAS, even as Voss's credentials were being questioned.  I remember some seriously long threads with many participants arguing both ways.

Lies may have been the spark.. but the community provided more than enough fuel.

Voss was in no way right with his actions, but that does not give people the license to behave in this manner.[/edit]

I don't envy the current crop of 13th TAS pilots.. I know all of them that fly here; they're good sticks and good people and they sure don't deserve to be embroiled in or associated with this messy stew from the past. Please bear that in mind when you see 'em online here in AH.

FWIW, I don;t think any of this reflects badly on the 13th T.A.S. per se.  Some of those guys defended a squaddie and got burned.. no shame on them for that.

What IS a problem is that "voss" apparently feels no shame from the crock of s*** he tried to pass off.

IMO, a simple "yeah, I got carried away...sorry guys" would do it, but I doubt he's man enough to swallow his pride.

But I still remember the (badly) faked up picture he tried to pass off as him in his very own P-51.. sheesh!

Note the obviously photoshopped name on the canopy. We all must have laughed for weeks about it.

He claimed to Vila and others he owned a P-51 and that he had pics, and THIS is what he comes up with.

I guess it all kinda came to be sad after seeing what a poor loser this jerk was. We all knew that TAS was a fake. There were telltale signs on the screenshots that they were photoshopped and rendering software was used. I think he took the cockpit from a rendering example for Lightwave.

just an FYI...

13th TAS as a online squadron existed far earlier than any supposed "game" that came later. There were good people in it when it started and there are some good folks in it now. Try not to forget that please.

I thought he was saying I was his DOOM or something and basically agreed. I saw the whole deal on usenet long ago. I know some of your guys handles from the usenet deal and I especially remember Robey. But who is DOOM. Voss Hinds, even tho Id love to throw you in back and make you puke up your liver, or somehow show you what terror really is in peacetime let along what it must be like when people are shooting at your butt, Ill save you a little bit of pain. Ive never been called DOOM in my whole long life, not even by a crewchief, ba dump bump! No use in you getting someone cranked up for no reason like dejavu almost did.
