Future Weapons
« on: June 13, 2008, 01:40:44 PM »
Anybody here a fan of the show?

I've seen about 50% of the episodes. My main reason for watching is that I enjoy watching things explode--as would any red-blooded American male.

That being said, I think that the show provides only the most superficial descriptions of the weapons systems, designed for the mass lay-audience as a quickly-digestible introduction and nothing else.

I also think that the host is a sweetheart of sorts. Professional killer he may have been, but the way he behaves on the show I'd assume that he was the SEALs PR rep and nothing else. He is a patronizing, compulsive over-actor and if his career in the military was heavily laden with combat experience, this does not come through in his hosting. In my opinion, he comes off as a Tim the Tool Man Taylor for cool weapons, only problem is, he doesn't have an Al standing by him to show the real know how.

The show is pretty interesting.

However I can't stand the host.  He just has that aura of "I'm going to talk in an elevated whisper to show other people how dangerous / sweetheart-bagish I am."  Occasionally if there is literally NOTHING ELSE on, I will deal with him.

But Barney is more entertaining.

Agreed. The elevated whisper makes him sound like Jack Bauer--only without the decidedly 'I'm gonna kill you quietly if you force me' air about him.

PS: What's with the sig line?

Mail Call with R Lee is much better.

The host of Future weapons ruins it.

The sig line was from some genius who posted hilarious descriptions of Forum Members, and then got banned.  Any attempt to repost the list in its entirety got deleted with subsequent threats of banning.

So I took my line, and put it in the signature line.

Btw, 73 was not number 73, but apparent IQ Points.  I think in a list of 30 people or so, only 2-3 cracked 100 points.

I like the show and the guy is just trying to do his best without any obvious help. Besides it is much better than 99.9% of the shows currently on any television channel in the same time slot.

Great show.  My brother in law got to me R Lee.  He said that he is very much like he is on the show.

Is that the one with the Ex-Navy seal guy?

If so..... nope!

Lost interest when he called Waco a hostage situation.

IMHO If he actually believes that Waco was a hostage situation then I really don't have much faith in his opinion.

If he was just reading a script, pretty much the same thing....................

Thought about sending a letter to the people that make the program and those that show it but figure their more interested in theatrics and makin money then actual accuracy?

I still like watching "Wings". They had the P-47 episode on the other night and I got serious wood over it.

Seen every episode of "Future Weapons". Still fun to watch though. The host is a little weird though. "This next weapon is so magnificent and so new that I have to talk in a low, serious voice to express the coolness of it."  :lol
