I say that after many other planes have been added, an exception should be made to the "did it see service?" rule for the P-80, on the grounds that it was the first American jet fighter.

However, I really do mean after many many other planes have been added.  Good idea though.

The P80 was a Korean war jet. Saying we should get it because it was the United States' first jet is like saying we should get the F86 because it was the world's first supersonic aircraft.

Yes but it was in use (but did not see combat) during the final bit of World War II.

Exactly. It saw combat in Korea not World War II. There's absolutely no argument for the P80.

Hmm.

I just read that it would have seen combat in WWII if it were not grounded because of a fatal accident.  There were P-80s stationed in Italy (I think?) a few months before the war's end.

This is incorrect.  Two YP-80s were sent to Italy and two to the UK so that combat pilots could try them out and comment on them.  There is no way they would have ever seen combat.  And note that I said "YP-80s" and not "P-80s".  They were prototypes, not production machines.

How about the P-80 or any of Kelly Johnsons SKUNKWORKS projects.

The P-59 Airacomet was actually the first jet fighter the US had and 80 production models were ordered in 1943.  We gave one to the Brits for testing and they thought the P-59 was utter rubbish and US test pilots also had the similiar opinion.  With a max speed of 417MPH, it was slower than some of the new propellor powered aircraft introduced in 1944 and 1945.

Out of the 80 ordered, Bell managed to deliver 50 of them (P-59As and P-59Bs).  It was pretty much delegated as a stateside trainer and the experiences learned from the program was later applied to the P-80's development.

You Can't put the P 80 in unless you put the DO 335 in. It did see service in limited numbers, like 1 or 2 attached to regular service units, and yes I know this for a fact, I m still putting together the rossters and plane numbers, sadley though there were not 100 planes that saw action. only a handful like 30 to 40. I have so wanted HTC to add the DO 335 for as long as I've played, I would rather see the Do 335 than the ME 262 or the ME 163 in game play but then I don't own HTC and I'm only 1 voice.

Yeah, but the F-86 couldn't go supersonic (unless it was in a dive)..  In level flight, it couldn't break the sound barrier..  Just under 700mph I think, if I remember correctly..  Technically, the world's first truly supersonic aircraft was the Bell X-1.

The Gloster Meteor would be more realistic seeing that it started actual service in mid-1944..

There are FAR more aircraft that really should be put into the game rather than a *jet* that never saw operational service in any form in WWII.

If another jet is put into service in AHII, I would like to think that the Meteor would be next in line due to it seeing combat (even if it was only intercepting V1/V2 rockets) and it serving in multiple squads.  Me thinks there are far more aircraft ahead of the Meteor.  Like the He111, P40N, Beaufighter, Il-4, Mig-3, D520, Ki-45, Mossi B Mk16/18, etc.   ;)
