I haven't been on a Usenet group in probably 8-10 years so I have no opinion. I also don't use Verizon for anything other than fodder in jokes about commercials.

Storm in a teacup really. Most iSP/Telco Usenet servers are pretty poor anyway, anyone who really uses goes via the paid services such as giganews and usenet.net - which verizon have not blocked access too.

I didn't catch that from the article but what you are saying is I can still access it from Giganews but not my ISPs news server?  If that's the case that PPPHHHEEEEWWWWW!

Not that I'm in to child porn I tend to browse the divx and mp3 forums.  It sucks that one group ruins it for the rest though.

Yea saw this news the other day and it ticks me off. I'm all for fighting CP and piracy but having a ISP bend over with no fight at all pisses me off. That just goes to show you how easy it was for Bush and co to ease drop illegally using wiretaps because the telcos put up no fight.

Everyone is worried about govt big brother but people fail to understand "this" type of stuff is what they should be scared of. The govt isn't gonna make some secret data base on everyone. Mainstream big business America has already done it. All the govt has to do is put pressure on them and they get to use that info under the guise of "fighting terrorism or protecting children".

As a Verizon employee and customer I dont agree with Verizon doing this. I dont like it either.
That being said, after reading the article and several of our internal newlsetters I do understand it/ Verizon wants the 6 video franchises in and around NYC so they will do almost ANYTHING to placate the local authorities there to help...expedite the process. I should think that after we get the video franchises the restrictions will be quietly either removed or lessened

Well actually its more to do with NNTP servers costing the ISPs a lot to run and them not making any $$$ from it. They were probably just looking for any excuse to turn them off. Many ISPs in NZ killed their nntp servers years ago.
