Question for those that like cloud bank.........
« on: March 12, 2001, 09:48:00 AM »
Couple questions for those that like the clouds.

Can you see Icons when under the clouds?
If yes, are the Icons black or green and red?

Can you see the cross-hairs in your gun-sight when under the clouds?
If yes, what color cross-hairs are you using?

When in the shadow of the cloud bank, but not under, do plane icons turn black that are farther away from the cloud bank?

Thanks,
WRek

Can you see Icons when under the clouds?
Yes, I can see icons with some difficulty.

If yes, are the Icons black or green and red?
They are dark green and dark red respectively.  I have to pay attention to tell the difference.

Can you see the cross-hairs in your gun-sight when under the clouds?
Easily.  It seems illuminated.

If yes, what color cross-hairs are you using?
I am using the sights from this website:
Historical Gunsights

When in the shadow of the cloud bank, but not under, do plane icons turn black that are farther away from the cloud bank?
No.

Same answers as Karnak except for the last question. Icons near the cloud bank but no under it turn dark green or dark red they almost look black.

I can fight under the clouds no problem. IT can gt so dark that at one point I missed and Osty 50 feet in front of my Panzers nose once. But I saw his darl outline and nailed em.  The icons do not disappear but are indeed dark. I have no problem telling freind from foe in other words.

I see ALOT of graphics anomolies whenever I am even just out of visible range of these new cloud banks.  Wierd growing gray rectangles off on the horicon in my 5,7,11,1 view but no in my 12 or 6.  Loss of ships graphics excep wakes. And the cloud bank graphics themselves.

Wish HiTech would acknowlege what there may be issues they need to resolve.  I'm guessing he's working on it but not sure.

Thanks for the info guys. I've noticed the same things Westy.
Also if it wasn't for the difference in the friendly icons and a enemy icons I couldn't tell who was who. There both almost black to me.
You guys say you can see your sight easily. I can't see my cross-hairs when under the clouds and pointed in the direction of the clouds. I can just barly make them out when pointed toward the ground. I'm using yellow colored sights and maybe some other color would work better.
Guess I'm going to have to tweak my vid. card.
I'm just wondering what others are see. I think some, like myself, are have more problems with these new clouds then others.

being color blind I dont see them when they go below the horizon anyway... and now the plane shape is completely dark.

I look for movement.. I see it, follow it, get under it on its 6 so I can see its icon/plane against the grey clouds, SPRAY like a madman.

Cloud banks have two real serious problems IMO.

First I get a dramatic FR hit. I go from 45 and 55 FPS to 16 and less in an unoccupied sector under the clouds.

Second the level under the clouds is way too dark. This washes out plane shapes and friend / foe / plane type icons. The change in light levels is much more than you see in RL cloud situations. It goes from bright daylight to almost full dark and that is with a 17" monitor at full bright.

My computer isn't the best but is well above minimums for AH. P3 500 128 megs ram, Voodoo 3 3000 agp 16 megs.

The other day down here in Fl. we actually had an overcast sky(just like in AH) Everybody had there headlight on. It was almost as dark at 2 pm as at dusk.

Looks real to me!!!!
