Sorry to hear about your loss Mac. Our dog is like a child to us, I hate to think what is going to be like when he passes on. If I were you, I would find another dog soon. Not as a replacement as there can never be a replacement for him, but to have another puppy to share your love with and to receive joy from.

The only thing that has gotten me over the sad times of missing them is remembering the times they made you laugh your backside off.  No joke!

Corky was a cockapoo that was who knows how old when we got him from the rescue center in Deerfield, IL.  He was my best friend in junior high school.  I'd come off the football field after practice and my mom would open the car door and he's run right to me.  40 other kids around and he could care less.

He also would be SO happy to see you come home that he would haul backside on the carpet and try to attempt to make that 90 degree left hand turn in the dining room (vinyl flooring) to get to see you and never quite negotiate that turn and wipe out into the dining table chairs like a NASCAR spinning into the infield.  He'd try and shake it off and then come scampering over to the back door to greet you....tail wagging 1000 mph!

Every March (in knee deep snow) he'd break his chain and run off (dog in heat on North Bonnie Brook Road) and come home that night, wet, stinking, and looking like a drowned rat...but with a look on his face like "sorry...I had a DATE...REALLY".

He'd also hop up on the couch with me and my girlfriend (future wife) and INSIST on giving her "smooches"...of course he had old dog breath that would knock a buzzard to the floor...but he HAD to do it.  What a household ambassador of STANK.  Even she couldn't stop laughing.

Mac...tell us of some of the times he cracked you up!!!

Oryan was smart. Instead of the ol "sit" and "speak" stuff I taught him better.
I'd get him to bark by saying "Flat Cat". I ask him "How do you grab a cat?" and he grab his tail in his mouth... then "Take Kitty for a walk" and he'd try and walk pullin his tail... 3 steps and he'd fall down. He was the life of all the BBQ's.  He knew he had a great gig going on and he'd get rewarded by anyone there.
One day he was on his lil inflatable raft in the pool and the girls would mess with him by swimming underneath him. He put his head underwater once and tried to bark at the girls..Thought both of my Daughters were gonna drown they were laffin so hard... They came outta the pool spittin up water and Oryan, still on his raft, had that "See I showed them look". We were all in tears laffin so hard.
We had some hornets that was into the rock side of the house near the pool. He seen these hornets fly in and out of a little hole and decided to investigate. He stuck his nose up to the hole and learned fast that these lil buggers fight back. He got stung on the eyebrow and on the lip. I had to put and ice cube on his eyebrow and he got a Popsickle for the lip. Poor guy looked rough. The wifey and I sprayed the hole down with killer spray. A week later the wifey and I are cleaning up around the pool and when we got to where the hornets used to be Oryan was on the other side of the pool frantically barkin has arse off at us as if to say "Don't go over there....they bite." He never would go near that spot for Years.
As a pup he'd just do funny stuff. Daughter left Roller Blades in the backyard. I was sittin in the livingroom sippin coffee and a blur went past the window... I looked and he had stuck his nose into one of the roller blades and was just running as fast as he could over and over again. I guess he thought the vibrations was kewl. I passed coffee thru my nose.

Oryan was more than just a dog. He was Great!

So sorry to hear it -
We have a mutt that has been our kid for 14 years now - 4 years ago we picked up another mutt at the pound because we were told Riley probably wouldn't last too much longer - she was slowing down and showing the signs - as soon as the puppy came home - Riley needed to dominate and once again was acting like a 3 year old pup again - she is on daily arthritis medicine - she still needs to dominate - be the first dog out the door - first dog in everything - loves to still wrestle -play bite as we throw a blanket over her head -
My wife will cry for days when she finally passes

My heart goes out to you

So sorry to hear.

I got my dog on a whim. I figured if it didn't work out, I'd sell him or give him away. Well, I took him for his first shots and put him in his kennel when we got home. I'd check on him every now and then, and he just didn't look right - kind of listless. Well finally I decide, if the puppy is going to die in the night, it isn't going to die alone, so I put it in bed with me. I only half slept afraid I was going to roll on the thing, but did wake to find the thing licking me in the face.

So much for giving it away or selling it.

He's six year old now and my best bud. He's sleeping at my feet as I type this.  I can only imagine the loss you feel, but I don't like to.

After I wrote that my dog came down with a bout of vomiting and diarrhea (on Monday night). That usually doesn't worry me, and I went through the regular routine of withholding water until no vomiting for 6 hours etc. Usually, I'll have my dog back on a food in 36 hours. This time I couldn't past step one ( no vomiting for 6 hours after water), so I took him to the vet this morning to make sure nothing else was going on. He checked out fine, and the vet gave him a shot for nausea and some pills for his diarrhea. She also told me to withhold everything ( water and food for 24 hours).  We got home at about noon, and I told my brother on the phone, I was going out to eat, because my dog couldn't eat and I didn't want to eat in front of him. He asked me "do you really think like that?"

Well I do and I don't think its strange if anyone has ever had a companion animal. I know what you were going through that night you slept on the floor with your dog. There was nothing you could do but make sure he/she wasn't alone. Some people don't get that. I do.

Sorry to hear that Mac.
Lost my dog Jordan last 2 Superbowls ago. He ran away that night, as he had the tendency to do, and he would always come back and sit on the front porch at morning. I woke up one morning and he wasn't there, and I never saw him again.
Chocolate lab and a hell of a friend. He was a hell of a hunting dog. Listened well and swam like a beast. Retrieved well too. Always loved "racing" him to bed as he slept with me all the time. Cya buddy...you'll always be missed

Read the first few posts of this thread last week.  Saturday night I had the strangest dream about a dog from my childhood.   In my dream he was laying very still in the floor board of my pickup, on the verge of death.  As I drove around I would say a few words to him and he would lift his shaggy, grey muzzled head and look at me with smiling eyes.   It was so sad and disturbing it finally woke me up about 4 in the morning.  When I came out my nightmarish slumber I remembered every detail like it had just happened and after a few moments I realized that I was not sad anymore.  Can’t describe the feeling really but it felt nice to see him again.  He was a good dog, friend and family more than pet really who kept us out of trouble and protected us countless times.  My brother and I saved him from some older neighborhood kids that were tossing him in the air by his legs.  They landed a few blows but we managed to grab the puppy and run back home.  The mutt traveled back to the states with us and lived to be a little over thirteen years old.  Miss him everyday…
