Changing Gun packages and Fuel loadout on re-arm pad...
« on: June 23, 2008, 02:46:44 AM »
So you just fended off an attack with ur one can of fuel... now you want to go meet them halfway when they try again. if only you could tell they guy puttting gas in your plane to fill it up all the way instead of being stuck with one can.... maybe you want some bombs too this time....

I think it's reasonable to have the ability to re-fit planes on re-arm pad.

Take bombs with you from the hangar, ditch them as you take off...
If you need bombs later and you don't wish to (or cannot) land and reup, just hit the pad and you're golden :aok
Changing a gun package is a major refit, not possible on  a rearm pad.

The part where the bombs would be attached would create some drag and hinder the performance of the plane. I like the idea of when you rearm an option pops up on your clipboard map that would allow you to change your gun load our and attach bombs and or rockets. Maybe use the same screen for the ability to repair damage?

Planes are free (except perk planes, and they are free if you land them.)

So exit and get another plane.

Ghosth,

What if hangars are down?  :P

What I like most about this idea is that it would only make sense to implement it in such a way that if ordinance is down at a field, then you can't "re-arm" with bombs the field no longer has.

I think net though more people would complain about the change than would want it, though.

On planes with removable pylons, this would also be a re-fit which shouldn't be done on the re-arm pad. On planes with permanent pylons / hardpoints it kind of makes sense but is it really worth the coading effort?

100% agree with Ghosth on this but...

Kill potato's don't land their planes, they always rearm.  This is a kill potato post having no real bearing on the game.

Planes are free (except perk planes, and they are free if you land them.)

So exit and get another plane.

Ghosth,

you would want to land at a capped field and sit on the rearm pad for 30 secs?

Hangers can be down without a good cap...

A lone buff can do that!

Hell, my squadron ran a hit and run raid in F4Us a couple months ago and shut down fighters at two different small airfields on one sortie. Three of us rolled in on the first target while the rest stayed at altitude, then provided escort for the others on the next one.

All it takes is coordination and good aim, and it's not that hard to close out fighters on one pass.

And...who said it was a capped base?

well, usually, when all the hangars are down on a base, a mission/furball/cv/vulchfest is there or one is coming.
