Gunsight goes completely white with any sunlight
« on: June 23, 2008, 10:14:29 PM »
Not sure if there is a gunsite forum I missed, so posted here.  Not really a bug since it's custom gunsight too.

Anyone ever seen a gunsight turn entirely white when then sun glare hits it at all?

My custom edited gunsight turns completely white with any sun glare at all.  I checked the outsides for artifacts, but maybe I missed something that is setting a highlight, that is not normally visable

Here is is anyway.  Does anyone have an idea as to why it might cause a white-out glare effect?

Yep. It's a "feature". Really, its been like that since they started heavily modeling the gun sight glass and the armored glass in the forward view of some planes. At the same time, you can see the dash gauges become invisible because of "glare". Frankly, it's a little more realism that is needed.

humm thought it was the gunsight.  It didn't occur to me it might be a feature.

Seems a little overdone, or were they known for outrageous glare IRL?  I never heard about it... I heard about pilots holding their hands and thumbs up to spot planes against the sun however.

Change the colour of it to bright green. That usually helps.  :aok

Not sure if this would fix your problem, but there are some gunsights which when pointed into the sun,do not glare, but act as if no sun is shining through them, and you can see a con just fine.

Maybe find that gun-sight,transpose your line sights onto it,or draw them onto it and TADA!!!!
 A no-glare sight..

just dont be pointing that thing at me,and if you get it accomplished I would love to add that sight into my folder.

are you saying that some people are using gunsites that cancel out the sun's glare? IE you could shoot directly into the sun and be able to see the con through the gunsite without blinding light?

that needs to be addressed if so, imo.

Some planes had tinted reticles for just that use...
And the hogs have their armored glass' polygon go completely white with glare when it looks like it shouldn't.

thats why i even posted moot, to ask if the quoted sentance was in relavence to certain aircraft or to a certain gunsite that can be loaded onto any aircraft, there is a big difference.

The sun glare on the armored screen is the biggest reason I won't fly P38Gs... once that sun hits it, you are Stevie Wonder looking for the enemy.

Ditto....plus the fact that I suck in 38's.  :)

I've never had this problem
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Don't you get it... it is floating backwards after a stall and a flat spin. It is only beginning to fall apart after that explosion  :O
You should see the next few frames ;)
