Sax look into the sun, the whole armored glass glares.  The glass canopy ahead of it doesnt (prolly just a coading simplification, obviously), and the armored glass only accounts for the player pov's heading relative to the sun, when it's actualy angled.. I could go test it, but I'm pretty sure peak glare ought to happen somewhere else than exactly pointing at the sun.

You also get it when the sun is behind you.

Up with the sun kinda low on the horizon and fly away from it.

I couldn't reproduce it. There was a slight brightening but only just enough to notice it.  I only tried one plane, but I guess some models might have little enough in the way for sunlight to hit the front glass..
Here's what I meant in the F4Us: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3179/2608413601_f27649e264_o.png

Into the sun, throught 109F gunsight.

Sun is behind me. As I dive, the glare washes out the gauges and the gunsight. This is usually only a problem when the sun is low on the horizon.

As often as not, it's like trying to fight from inside a dirty milk glass. Unfortunately, the Great High Putz of AH has a new 21" monitor and kick butt machine (yeah..I'm jealous :D).......convincing him that it's a problem hasn't been......easy. :)

This is why I brought this up.  I thought it was something to do with my gunsight but I think I started using this gunsight version right after a new AH version, so maybe that was it.

Does this seem a little over done to anyone?  Maybe HTC did it to not allow gamma tweaking, that might let someone see through normal sun glare or something... It just seems over done to me, and looks more like a bug than an effect.

Yep I have no concrete evidence, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't glare at that angle.

NB - It's really not a problem at that degree, on the second shot you posted :)

Don't you get it... it is floating backwards after a stall and a flat spin. It is only beginning to fall apart after that explosion  :O
You should see the next few frames ;)

Aaa that would make much more sense!

That's a shot from my pc, and I'm pretty sure my gamma is whatever the default is..  I haven't touched the gfx card's settings either.  The sun is just off to the left of the top left corner of the armored glass, just under the left 1/3 of the canopy arch.

me confused. ok so thats your pic moot, it just looks really bright. i play on a laptop at the moment and i have to actualy turn the gamma down in game as it runs very bright for some reason. What about the gunsite alpha slider? was that mentioned yet?

The gunsight alpha only works on a small part of that armor glass.. It's about as big as the rest of the planes' gunsight area.  Gotta ask Blukitty whether it fixes her problem, but from what she said it looks like she means the glare on the whole glass plate.
As far as I know, in the game, that glass plate is treated the same way (glare etc) as any regular gunsight because it's actualy a large gunsight object with a reduced area where the gunsight.bmp shows up.  If so, it'd need some exceptional coad added.

Yeah....Like making the gunsight.bmp fill the entire area down to the top of the cowling, as it did in the historical F4U....

Two birds with one stone, y'know?
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Perhaps not for you. For me...it seems I am invariably trying to shoot some wiener running away at precicely that angle and having to guess where to shoot. BTW, to get that glare, the sun has to be shining through the bottom of the plane. :)
