Damage effects
« on: March 14, 2001, 02:59:00 AM »
HTC,

Ok,
We have clouds (well ok HT is working on them   ) we have Boats and we have planes. We have minimal explosion effects on land-based objects & aircraft.

I am not a programmer so I do not know how hard it is to do but if possible how about:

1.   Damage effects to the airframe/engine like holes in the airframe / windscreen.
2.   Shredded damage effects from HEI hits.
3.   Oil leaks spraying oil over airframe / windscreen.
4.   When streaming fuel from the aircraft is hit with tracer rounds it will ignite /explode.
5.   Damage effects for the fleet, Oil slicks, smoke, burning / exploding ships.

What I would like to see is better graphics for hits and explosions. Hit sprites are quite unimpressive and sometimes totally wrong, for example 75 mm AP round hitting structure causes smaller sprite than 7,92 MG round, hardly convincing.

Wishlist:

- Smaller hit sprites when hitting aircrafts
- Sprite size matches size of round
- Bullest hitting ground or vehicle could ricochet to different directions.

I would make the hit sprites spawn "puffs" like you see in the video, and debris chafing off..and how about some damage..when yer engine gets shot out, have visable damage to it.  The thing that irks me the most is teh fleet however, ABSOLUTLY NO damage modeling, either the boat is at 100% and everyhthing works perfectly, or its doing that really goofy sink thing it does..a throw back to nintendo IMO.

Make a boat like a field, as in all parts are damagable, like the guns, the rudder..ets and some visual indication of damage  OIL SLICKS!

EAW has nicely done hit effects, where mg rounds produce a black smoke puff and cannon rounds a nice firey explosion.

20mm cannon hit in the belly:

13mm mg hit in the right wing:

I'd like to see something like this in AH as well.

That's one of the few things I liked about EAW, I thought the special effects were really good.   Pity about the crappy 8 bit colour though.
