My biggest problem with the whole Monica issue was that it effectively took the public spotlight off of what appeared to be far more egregious cases of sexual harrassment and abuse of power. It became the fodder of late night talk show hosts, who turned it into a humorous national joke instead of the despicable behavior it was. And once we as a country started laughing about it, it somehow became acceptable.
To me, it simply underlined an obvious double standard. The rest of us in the corporate world are constantly assaulted with "compliance training", everything from sexual harrassment, to diversity training, in an insulting attempt to make us more sensitive, as if we'd all be raised by wolves without the benefit of parents or role models. We find ourselves constantly being "re-educated" without having ever behaved inappropriately in the first place, while our supposed leaders behave like Caligula with apparent impunity.
