watch the watch, watch the watch....
« on: June 25, 2008, 03:56:31 AM »
and who is watching the watchers?

http://mensnewsdaily.com/2008/06/24/who-will-watch-the-watchers/

It's of interest that Benjamin Franklin is quoted here............

"Those who would sacrifice a little Liberty for more Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety and will have none." Ben Franklin

Now when you need to fly somewhere you SHOULD be there 90 minutes before flight time!

Why? Just in case they want to strip search you?

IMHO this terrorism thing has gotten out of hand...............

BUT it's for our safety...........

Oh really?

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human
freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of
slaves." William Pitt English politician, prime minister.

"The basic test of freedom is perhaps less in what we are free
to do then in what we are free not to do."  Eric Hoffer
American philosopher.

“the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." Hermann Goering in his cell on the evening of 18 April 1946

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in guise of fighting a foreign enemy." James Madison, fourth US president (1751-1836)

"Dangerous laws created by well intentioned people today can be used by dangerous people with evil intentions tomorrow." - Alan Eppers

"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters." —Daniel Webster

“The welfare of the people in particular has always been the alibi of tyrants, and it provides the further advantage of giving the servants of tyranny a good conscience.” —Albert Camus

But we always have these among us...............

"Some people were put on this earth to be slaves. They're unhappy if they're not a slave, and they'll keep searching until they find someplace where they can be one."~~SM 101

"The sheeping of America is nearly complete." ~~ Ted Nugent

"A society of sheep must in time beget a government of wolves." ~~ Bertrand de Juvenal

"According to my observations, mankind are among the most easily tamable and domesticable of all creatures in the animal world. They are readily reducible to submission, so readily conditionable (to coin a word) as to exhibit and almost incredibly enduring patience under restraint and oppression of the most flagrant character. So far are they from displaying any overweening love of freedom that they show a show a singular contentment with a condition of servitorship, often showing a curious canine pride in it, and again often simply unaware that they are existing in that condition." ~~ Albert Jay Nock; The Memoirs of a Superfluous Man

"Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it" ~~ George Bernard Shaw

There's been quite a vocal crowd here saying the exact same thing.

A true democracy can never be completely safe no matter how many safeguards are in place.  I don't mind the security at the airport as it stands. It will 'never be enough' for some and it will be "too much" for others.

I have not used an airline for 5 years.. I do everything I can to avoid even picking people up at em.

Some old war movie with the nazis at the train station asking for "papers" seems tame compared to the crap you see at airports these days.   I never would have thought any real American would put up with it.

The Nugent quote was unnecessary.

human nature... when the next one hits you'll be willing to give up even more of your liberties just so ya can feel safe...  then you'll shut the hell up and learn to enjoy being strip searched....  and so on...

I have not used an airline for 5 years..
same here...  I will not be treated like a criminal just because I wish to fly from point A and point B, I'd rather drive...

Not me!!!!!!!!

I prefer avoiding that crap if at all possible.

If I had the backing I'd take it all the way to the Supremes!

This must be a troll.  That's all I can come up with to explain such a post.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Nope not a troll!

It's for opinions...............

Perhaps some feel better with less freedom?

Myself?

I'd rather take a little more risk................

I posted several quotes that IMHO support my preference.........

What do you prefer?

By making the arrival time so early it will annoy the terrorists to the point where they will give themselves up in frustration.
