« on: June 29, 2008, 12:19:19 AM »
since nobody answered this in the hardware forum
I'll ask here

Whats the difference between

Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 English 1 Pack for System Builders w/multiple CD - OEM  $149.99

And

Microsoft Windows XP Professional With SP2C for System Builders - OEM  $139.99

And

Microsoft Windows XP Professional with SP2 - Retail   $269.99

I belive they are the same with the exception, that the system builders, or oem versions must be purchased with hardware. Such as a hard drive, or motherboard.
I have also heard that the system builder, or oem versions don't have a warranty. So if you get a bad cd you maybe SOL.

You have some period of free customer support with a retail version; no customer support with an OEM version. A bad CD will always be replaced.
