Stability is an overlooked factor that makes actually hitting anything easier, at least if you are me. Hurri has it..has it in spades.  I believe it was actually known for being a gun platform. So does the FM2. The Spit8, somewhat less, but still fairly steady, Spit16 a little less still.

you're right about the hurri....i think it actually was considered more deadly than the spit in ww2.......

The spit doesn't take hits very well and the zero lights up quicker than anything. The Hurricane sounds like what he's describing.  Maybe the N1K.

Spitfire Mk IX is a good choice.

ack-ack

For turning, the Mk8 is better.   ;)

It might not have the turning you're looking for, but the P38 has a great gun package, is extremely stable and can take a hell of alot of punishment.

Not, really. Spit9 will outturn both mk16 and mk8.

According to DokGonzo's website, turn radius without flaps is slightly better for the Spit8/16 than for the Spit9. Turn radius with flaps is slightly better for the Spit9. Lambo and I have played out the various possible Spit match-ups ad nauseum in the DA, and the 8/16, with their extra thrust, seem to have the edge over the 9, all other factors being equal.

I chose the wrong words, I beat the spit8/16 in stall fights and not turnfights which are purely horizontal (I can beat the spit8/16 on turnfights also, depending on the pilot on the fuel loaded).

The spit9 just feels lighter, and in fact it is.

So it looks like slight advantage to the 16 with flaps up in all parameters, slight advantage to the 9 with flaps down, once again.

You can post results for the 8, however, I suspect it will be similar to the Spit16. 8/16 has only a small disadvantage in turning with flaps, and a large extra power advantage for vertical maneuvering. (At typical low MA alts.)

Gee, guess that means we should perk the 8 and 16 :D

damn, makes me wanna play and pwn 16's in turnfights...work is over rated.

Its funny how stats sometimes doesn't reflect the in game sensations...but thats a large part of the fun in AH2, to fly on the edge.

Given the similarity in turning capacity of the 9/16 and the latter's advantage in engine power, and roll, you are almost certainly pwning the pilot and not the plane.

The Spit8, however, might be the best choice as it has most of the 16's strengths and none of its instability. Also, it has 32 minutes of range on full internal, and you don't get ENYed out it very often.

well the spit16 as a better high speed maneuverability and has a better roll rate. I'd say its a better bnz spit.

Yeah, but a Spitfire just LOOKs so much prettier with a wing of "proper" elliptical shape. :D
