In my Spitfire, I intercepted a tank rolling down a hill at 300 mph.

Then he killed me with the main gun.

The tanks need work guys.

But did he get your chute with the main gun? For only then can he call himself a true marksman.

it's easy to run at light speed with tank..
simply descent in neutral position and your tank will easy go at 100mph...
the only problem is to slow when you arrive at the end of the hill, otherwise CRASH TEST ON !!!

Yeah I know it's easy, that's the problem.  I am boycotting tanks until they get better.  Won't be driving them or shooting at them or interacting with them at all.  Neener neener neener!

I asked HT about this awhile back, he said he was going to leave it as is due to the opposite effect that one encounters going uphill (very slow), a "balance" issue.

BTW, anyone hitting a spit doing 300 in a tank is a fine shot, or lucky, that main gun bounces around like Madonna at a New Years eve party.

Who shoots at 300 IAS in a tank?
I dodge!

Trick is very small stick moves so you don't roll it.

By the same token, spending half an hour to climb that hill to attack (like last night at 11) only to die within sight of the top by a F4U-C REALLY bites!

BTW I always did wonder just HOW fast those tanks are when the gauge is pegged at 90 at the TOP of the hill.

Ripsnort, surely you are kidding that HT is going to leave in the 300 mph tanks?  Sigh I will continue to ignore them.

Hmmmm...must have been a poor driver.  I'm sure I was able to get to 325 mph downhill to 27.

It's a game...game....game....game..

I have read accounts that drivers of WW2 tanks were concerned about driving down cliffs. So it MUST have been possible to drive down them. Or else why would they be worried?

Jarbo, a squadie of mine was recently in Texas, and decided to offer to buy drinks to HiTech and company. He asked this very question, and HiTech (or was it Pyro...don't recall) said he'd leave it for the time being. He said something to the effect that there were few places it really made any difference, and climbing UP the hill was such a pain that it was small consolation.  Finally, he said it was "just too damn much fun racing down that hill from 56 to 27."

Personally, I'd like to see the introduction of roads, where the effect would be to allow faster travel for armor than is possible off-road.  Likewise, the off-road max speed should be a function of the texture mapping of the terrain you're on.  Light green would be grasslands, where fast travel was possible. At the other end of the spectrum would be dark green (wooded area) or gray (broken, rocky ground) where your max speed might be only 10 mph.  It could be modeled as drag is on aircraft.

Rojo, the tanks already travel cross-country at their on-road speed.

The solution is to model some faster tanks (think M18 Hellcat) or for the tank drivers to loose the arcade mentality.
