Computer has a mind of its own...
« on: July 01, 2008, 05:30:58 AM »
Heres the key to all of this, which I think is a major factor. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse. I will be flying along, and my game will just freak out! For example tonight in my B-25Cs, the bomb doors would open and close rapidly, all my bombs dropped, my foreward guns started firing, my PTT for channel kept keying over and over, my text buffer would open and close, and my view would zoom in and out. Ive got no clue what this is, but it really screws things up for me. Any ideas anyone?

You may want to hookup a wired keyboard, if you have any lying around, just to check...

Sadly, I don't. My dad bought this one and got rid of all the "old" stuff.

I used to run into all kinds of "strangeness" with my wireless mouse....how are the batteries in your setup? I replaced mine and the issues went away

They seem fine. It happens every few days, but it keeps on working fine without changing the batteries.

Wireless keyboards and rats can be very problematic.  The only way to know if the problems are related to them is to try the wired alternatives.  In all likely hood it is the wireless keyboard causing the troubles.

I'm an Amateur Radio Operator (HAM) so I have a bit of knowledge when it comes to radio and wireless communications..  If I'm not mistaken, wireless keybaords and mice run in the 1ghz range or above.  Well, there's also lots of other stuff that runs in those bands as well...  Cordless phones, baby monitors, routers, cellphones, car alarm remotes, just to name a few..  Most likely what is happening is that the receiver being used for your wireless keyboard/mouse setup is periodically receiving an odd signal or harmonic from somewhere nearby which causes your set up to "freak out"..  Nearby meaning in your neighborhood within 500ft or less..  1ghz frequency or above propagate quite easily through most solid objects as opposed to UHF or VHF frequencies..  For all you know, your neighbor/neighbors may be using a wireless keyboard or mouse as well and you may be receiving an errant signal from them...

Thats possible... I have a cellphone right next to my computer, and use wireless internet with a router in the other room.

I use a wireless setup with no problems. But I agree they are more prone to issues then wired setups.

Many of my issues simply died off when I started using a dedicated, powered USB Hub for my controllers.

Is it possible your keyboard keys are sticking? Have you checked your system for virus's?

Its definately not keys sticking. Its about 12 different functions that occur, all mapped to different keys, and its the same functions every time, as simultaneously as possible with a computer.

I've had a little exerpience with wireless mice and keyboards.  I used to do logitech's high end wireless mice for years until I fell in favor of wired mice again for various reasons.  My mother in law bought a new Dell laptop not too long ago with a wireless keyboard and mouse.  This one is even Bluetooth and it has a had time establishing a connection from 6 inches away, while a phone can connect from a room away.

So I've gone back to be a wired over wireless person mainly for conflict issues.  The number of airborne frequency congestion is only going to get worse.
