Did we all follow the "20mm only" rule last fso?
« on: July 02, 2008, 02:24:31 PM »
Just curious if the CMs or staff might be able to chime in on this, other can join in if interested.

I made a comment in another thread.

The content of the comment is that I feel we (the FSO and scenario community) are able to be given an order on an aircraft like "No drop tanks!" or "no 37mm! 20mm only!" and we will follow it.

I'm sure they have all the tips/tricks in the logs they can check but I know my unit followed the commands during the last FSO (P-39Ds 20mm only).

I think that such a rule in the scenarios and in the FSOs has a group of pilots more interested in following the rules and the structure of gameplay, and are more willing to restrict themselves for the greater good of the event.

Was I wrong? Do you agree that we are capable of this?

I'm curious if the example of the last FSO was followed or if there were some violations here and there.

I can't speak for Ghostdancer or Stoney, but If I implement a specific rule such as ordinance restrictions, I would double check against the logs to confirm there was no one breaking the rules.

I plan on using some ordinance restrictions in my August FSO but I usually avoid rules I can't enforce, Ordinance restrictions are usually one of those rules. It can't be enforced in the arena and penalties can only be assessed after the event and by then the damage is done.

I think overall the FSO community can be trusted to abide by any restrictions or rules we might implement. The key is making sure they are understood and the penalties are known and later enforced should they be broken.

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Specifically speaking, if the F4F-4 were assigned and pilots were ordered to only use the 4-gun package (flying as F4F-3s), I think that overall we would follow the rules.

I know my squad only carried the 20mm package both times we had the P-39 last frame.

I think most of the squads that have been part of FSO for awhile would follow any restrictions, it's just the newer squads that I'm not sure about.

I don't think the 20mm/30mm option was a big deal last FSO, mostly due to the weak armor the zekes have anyway. I'd much rather have a p39 slightly lighter with a faster ROF and better projectile velocity.

The AH scenario flyers are among some of the most gracious and enthusiastic people on AH currently. I strongly doubt anyone would circumvent the rule set just for their own pleasure...

Do rules get broken? Yes, but often because things get so busy in a scenario event. Take DGS for example, Easyscor's bombers and some of our P38s were heading home, due west along the southern border. We fought the Luftwaffe for over 150 miles all the way to friendly airspace but in the firefight the bombers had neglected to notice the southerly winds had pushed them off course slightly and into the no fly zone.

I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt...

I think I can safely say 68Falcon would tear us a new one if he found any of us deliberately disobeying orders / rules like this.

VMF-251 P-39s carried 20mm cannon only in frame 3 (F4Fs in Frames 1 and 2. Tho it wasn't a rule, we took the 4x.50cal anyway for the 430rds/gun :D ).
