Brett Favre
« on: July 02, 2008, 05:41:12 PM »
ESPN is reporting that Favre has contacted the Packers about coming out of retirement. The local sports radio station in Milwaukee is also reporting the same thing. But they also added that Packers GM Ted Thompson said no and Favre has asked to be released.

Now as a Packer fan this pains me to say this but its time for Favre to go. I love the guy and am thankful for all the games I was able to watch him play, but its the same BS every year. Next year he will do the same thing, its not fair to the team, the fans and most of all to Aaron Rodgers.

Thanks for everything Brett, cya later :salute

Yes, great guy, thanks a bunch, now let the new generation have its time in the limelight without proving that age eventually does indeed wear out.

I'd love to see him play more.

You can't tell me the Pack has a better chance at winning with Aaron Rogers.

Probably not this season but the switch has to be made sometime. I've defeneded Favre a lot for not being able to make up his mind on retirement but enough is enough. At some point the team has to look to the futre and I think Favre will make some nice trade bait :aok There is no way Thompson is going to release him from his contract.

Rodgers is no Brett Favre but I think as long he stays injury free he'll be fine.

That ESPN reporter (Mortenson?) was one of the very first to report he was retiring.  I have no doubts he has good sources.  If Favre did get traded, I'd be a bit disappointed.  It would taint my image of him.

I think I've watched the NFL highlights for the Seahawks playoff game about 50 times now (literally).  I went to the NFC championship game, and haven't watched a single highlight reel of that game, nor do I want to.  I felt sicker than any heartbreak I've ever experienced.  That game was a roller coaster.  I don't hate the way it ended, just overally depressed.  To go from one of the best games I've every watched the week before, to be first hand experiencing a crushing defeat.

Pshaw...yeah, and Tom Brady is no Drew Bledsoe!

Anyway, I think it's pretty bad form for Brett to do this.  Just frikkin' retire already.

Agreed.

Pack will be NFC Champs in 09.

Personally, I believed he would play this year... he waited too long to ask to return.

I've got a gut feeling he's going to be injured throughout the season.  He seems fragile to me, but I'm comparing him to Brett.  His breaking the bone in his foot 2 years ago?  He didn't even get hit on that play.  After the Cowboys game last year, he pulled a hammy and we had to sign Craig Nall again.

So the last two NFL games Rodgers has played in, he's been injured and had to sit out the rest of the season and the other time it was 2-3 weeks IIRC.

Not familiar with his injuries, but last year when the Pack played the Steelers in a Pre-season game he looked really good.

Don't worry - like all the old Bears players who went to the pack and sucked
Brett will sign with the Bears and throw interceptions all day
