Please Refine Joystick Shake
« on: May 06, 2001, 09:57:00 PM »
Recently the joystick shake suppression has severely impacted my game play.  I don't stick stir, but my force feedback Logitech Wingman Force 3D occasionally will twitch on its own when my grip is released for any reason.  That results in the dreaded orange Don't Move Your Stick So Fast lockup which has killed me on landing, fights, and general low level manuevering.

I understand force feedback will be supported next edition, but I hope in the meantime you can re-examine the joystick control parameters and strike a better balance between intentional stick stirring and various joystick idiosyncries.

I've recalibrated several times, but nothing helps.  This was not a problem until recently when the anti stick stirring was implemented.

I appreciate the efforts to eliminate stick stirring and encourage smooth flying, but this current sensitivity is making the game just about unplayable for me.  Thanks.

Both sticks I've used since 1.04 was released have given me hell.

<CH F-16 and Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D>

I have had to add so much deadband and damping the aircraft are sluggish. I thought it was the SBLives cheesy game port but have the same problems with a TM game card.

Er, duh, forget everything after Hello.  Adjusting the dead band and damping seems to pacified the excessive stick movement warning.

Correction:  thought deadband and damping adjustments would solve problem, but they haven't.  Before the game added those Don't Move Your Stick So Fast messages, my Logitech Wingman Force 3D was fine, pretty much silky smooth.

Now I either have to leave the deadband and damping at zero and get persistent stick lockups after the too fast movement warning, or I have to use so much deadband and damping (at least 10 to 20%) that joystick is all jerky and impossible to zero in with any reasonable control.

I hope the addition of force feedback in the next version will restore the fine feel the game used to have for my joystick, but in the interim, any game adjustments or suggestions for my settings would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Solved my problem -- bought a Logitech Extreme joystick, just like my previous one but WITHOUT FORCE FEEDBACK.  Kept same AH stick settings and it works flawlessly, night and day difference.

My FF stick worked fine in WarBirds which supported force feedback, and used to work okay in AH which does not -- until that Don't Move Your Stick lockup was introduced.

Oh well, whatever, I'm fully operational again and AH remains the best game I've ever played.

Problem with FF stick in AH that doesn't support it is that the FF stick always had some twitchies, wanted to tremble sometimes when hand off of it, and that got AH all excited with the warning and lockup.

Damping or more deadbanding just made the stick totally unnatural in feel, no fun at all.

While I enjoyed FF in WarBirds, like many of you I wound up using it mostly just for stall warning enhancement.

So, from my point of view, I don't care of AH ever has force feedback.  As usual, HiTech seems to know what he's doing in setting up the best combination of most playable and most realistic.

That sounds like the sensor on a CH FFX stick. There is a sensor that enables FF when you have your hand on it, take your hand off and the FF stops. Try putting some opaque tape over the sensor...worth a try!

Yea, I sure am looking forward to the force feedback introduction. Having a FF stick now is a real disadvantage.

1.07 in two weeks as usual?
