FS0: Guadalcanal, Green Hell Frame 2 & 3 Scores
« on: July 04, 2008, 11:05:16 AM »
Okay, took me a bit of time to work out the logs. In frame 1 we have a lot of violations mainly from 4 Japanese squads. The U.S. basically won the air war and the violations by the Japanese of the 2nd life rule only made it worse since they lost more on their illegal reups than they shot down. So I am not going into particulars for frame 1. With the violations it was a major U.S. victory.

Frame 2
Now frame 2 here are how both sides deployed their pilots (this is the initial launch and does not include the 2nd lifers launching again later in the frame).

Japanese
A6M2 - 187 (72.2%)
B5N2 - 44 (14.2%)
D3A1 - 21 (6.8%)
Ships - 7 (2.3%)

U.S.
F4F-F - 70 (29.2%)
P-39D - 75 (26.3%)
SBD-5 - 51 (21.3%)
TBM-3 - 32 (13.3%)
Ships  - 12 (5.0%)

As you can see the the Japanese had a 42 fighter advantage (187 vs 145) at the initial launch. But the U.S. had the attack plane advantage of 83 vs 63.

Now for the results:

447 = U.S. Bombing
200 = U.S. Naval
1320= U.S. Air
-500 = Penalty for 5 pilots of one squad violating 2nd life rule
1466 - Total

142 = Japanese Bombing
80 = Japanese Naval
695 = Japanese Air
917 - Total

Japanese Specific Break Downs:

Naval Surface Action
===============
Sunk 1 Enemy CA
Sunk 1 Enemy DD

Bombing Results
============
61 = A1 (32% destroyed)
80 = C22 (CV 2/3rd damaged )
01 = A35 (0.5% damaged)

Air to Air
=======
155 = 31 F4F-4s
270 = 54 P39-Ds
170 = 17 SBD-5s
120 = 12 TBM-3s
-10 = 2 A6M2s
-10 = 1 B5N2

U.S. Specific Break Downs

Naval Surface Action
===============
Sunk 1 Enemy CA
Sunk 4 Enemy DD

Bombing Results
============
94 = A9 (49% destroyed)
35 = A10 (18% damaged)
37 = A40 (19% damaged)
280 = C37 (1 CV, 1 CA, 2 DD)

Air to Air
=======
895 = 179 A6M2s
260 = 26 B5N2s
200 = 20 D3A1s
-5= 1 F4F-4
-20 = 4 P-39Ds
-10 = 1 SBD-5

A couple other notes on Frame 2, besides the violation of 2nd life rule by one squad (which got the whole squad banned from frame 3 and 2 frames of the July) FSO. We also had a Japanese squad that was a no show. This squad not showing up (they were removed from the event for frame 3 and indefinitely afterwards) really hurt the Japanese since the squad was the main escort for one of the the Japanase bombing strikes.

No shows are a serious thing and have a major impact on an event and your side.

Frame 3
Now frame 3 here are how both sides deployed their pilots (this is the initial launch and does not include the 2nd lifers launching again later in the frame).

Japanese
=======
A6M2 - 178 (73.9%)
B5N2 - 31 (12.9%)
D3A1 - 15 (6.2%)
Ships - 17 (7.1%)

U.S.
===
F4F-F - 135 (58.2%)
P-39D - 38 (10.8%)
SBD-5 - 8 (3.3%)
TBM-3 - 40 (16.7%)
Ships  - 11 (4.6%)

As you can see the both sides were basically equal in fighters this time (178 vs 173) at the initial launch. Although this frame most of the U.S. fighters were F4F-4s. In frame 2 it was a more of an even split between the P39D and F4F.  Numbers were roughly equal among the attack planese fielded out by both sides also, 48 vs 46.

Now for the results:

307 = U.S. Bombing
000 = U.S. Naval
1125= U.S. Air
1432 - Total

244 = Japanese Bombing
160 = Japanese Naval
895 = Japanese Air
1299 - Total

NOTE: The Japanese sank all 5 U.S. naval surface ships however, a game glitch happened that the U.S. gunners during the battle handle their turrets freeze on them .. not allowing them turn their turrets. As far as I can tell by the logs the Japanese sank 3 ships before this happened (logs showed allies firing and hitting and then nothing at certain point .. 3 U.S. ships were sunk before this point). So I am crediting the Japanese with 3 instead of 5 ship kills.

Japanese Specific Break Downs:

Naval Surface Action
===============
Sunk 1 Enemy CA
Sunk 2 Enemy DDs

Bombing Results
============
30 = A1 (16% destroyed)
53 = A35 (28% damaged)
01 = A31 (0.5% damaged)
160  = C3 (CV sunk)

Air to Air
=======
420 = 84 F4F-4s
125 = 25 P39-Ds
80 = 8 SBD-5s
270 = 27 TBM-3s

U.S. Specific Break Downs

Naval Surface Action
===============
No enemy ships sunk

Bombing Results
============
40 = A9 (21% destroyed)
27= A10 (14% damaged)
240 = C7 (1 CV, 1 CA, 1 DD)

Air to Air
=======
655 = 131 A6M2s
320 = 32 B5N2s
150 = 15 D3A1s

If a squad doesn't follow the rules of the event, they aren't asked to stay around.

Basically we had squad that in the MA broke up. They said they would finish out the FSO but they didn't show for frame 2 at all. This wreck one of the Japanese attack plans and led to the slaughter of their attack force and very poor bombing results. The Japanese were also suffering from 15 pilots being suspended for violations in frame 1. So overall I think the Japanese were down about 26 pilots. The 15 suspensions they new about and new from which squad so they were able to modify their plans to account for some squads being weaker than normal.

The other no show squad basically wrecked things for them.

Now as for the rules violation. Frame 1 we suspended 15 pilots for 2 frames and issue all sorts of warning on the BBS and to the squad COs / XOs to them. Plus, if I actually scored the frame the Japanese would have suffered a -1500 point penalty (I was assigning 100 point penalty per 2nd life violation).

In frame 2 we had 5 pilots on the U.S. side violate the 2nd life violation. After all our emails, postings, etc. about it Sled decided that the 5 pilots were suspended for 3 frames and that the squad could not fly for 3 frames. Although the other pilots in the squad could fly under another squads colors since they didn't violate the 2nd life rule, but the squad as a whole was to be penalized for the massive violation. There really was no excuse or justification for it after frame 1 and everything we did in response publicly to those violations.

Plus, as you saw I levied a -500 point penalty to the U.S. side.

Now remember we judge violations on a case by case basis. Within the first 15 minutes you are for the most part safe. This means, if you crash on take off, a friendly shoots his guns accidentally and hits you, joystick problems, etc. You can reup. It causes headaches for us CMs going through the logs but we know things happen and can accept that. Which is why we look at things on a case by case basis.

In frame 1 and frame 2 it wasn't anything like that. It was people being killed, then discovering that bases were open for 2nd life pilots, and then they reupped and fought again either killing or being killed. Now in frame 2 there were a few incidents I personally know of where a pilot went .. hey fields are up .. be right back with you guys. We then told him .. no that is a violation and get your butt back on the ground. The person did. That I was fine with, he broke the rule but was told he was breaking it and rtb. It is the ones that upped and then actually fought / bomb that were penalized.

Glad to see we did our best in Frame 3, based on the stats.

Yep, frame 3 worked the best. Frame 2 wasn't bad .. I know the strike that had their full escort actually held their own. It was the other one that took a beating. Also the gunners of the allies in the surface action I was told spot on. So the Japanese just had a series of unfortunate events until frame 3.

Frame 3 really was well fought by both sides.
