I'm not sure I like this idea it would either go one of two ways for me. One, everyone would run because they see its Bearkats! Two, they would all gang and HO me because they see Bearkats!

Please note the obvious joking tone to my post. :D

But you're dead on correct.

I think that when you see an enemy pilot it should list the pilots name under the icon of which plane they are flying. that way if someone is warping everywhere and you want to report them to ah, ah will be able to find out who it is and then possibly send them an e-mail telling them to stop or ah will freeze thier account. Plus, sometimes you just want to know who you are flying against.

Just fight everyone as if they were Paccerr  :aok

Statistically, I have been shot down many more times by "unknown" pilots than by the "famous" ones.

Showing one's identity is not a good idea, I dont like the fact that it even shows who you shot down.  Too much info is already given out and I think some should be eliminated.  I think the enemy icons should only show a red indicator of some kind (red dot?), with absolute plane identifaction of any sort inside a 200ft circle.

Also, when you get s kill (or get shot down) I think it should say:

"You shot down a Bf109-K4", or... "You downed a Spit8", or..."You destroyed a Lancaster", or "An Me262 shot you down", or a NiK2 destroyed you", etc.  I think the " 'lil Enoodle pilot shot you down" leads to a lot of trash talkin' and squeakin'.

In WWII, a pilot didnt know who was shot down unless you were close enough to read the 2in name on the side of the cockpit.  All they knew was they were attacking or dueling it out a certain plane.  Many times, they didnt know what model it was either.  Sometimes, the unique nose art might give some indication.... otherwise.... the pilots didnt know.

Play longer, you'll know WHO or WHAT SQUAD you're going up against.  Personally, I'd rather have icons eliminated altogether.   Just send the films in.

YEP I agree Take them off exept for friendly air craft that way I want have my Perk plane jumped

200 FEET?!?!??! to figure out what kind of plane they are flying? Even if you meant 200 YARDS, still kind of wacky. Like I said, I can differentiate airplane types at least a mile away, (at the other end of a 5,000 foot runway) and I have bad eyesight. Real fighter pilots could do alot better. (Since this is a game, all our pilots get to be eagle-eyed.  :aok )  And an enemy indicator, but no plane type? If we are trying for some sort of "realism", realistically how the heck would you know it was an enemy a/c if you can't identify the type?

As for your second idea, I think it is worth considering. I think it might lean peoples attitude to thinking more about history and ACM and less towards personal hashing out.

200 ft ? ... then why have them at all ? The icon system is fine, especially seeing that all aircraft are available to all people.

Pilots who flew in the European theater knew for sure that they weren't going to run into any Japanese planes whether they were Allied or Axis. If you flew fighters in the European theater, you knew that you would be encountering P-51s, P-47s, 109s, 190s, 262s ... so either side, Allies or Axis, knew what they were looking for and knew what they were when they saw them ... from quite a long distance too.

In this pixelated world, there is no way to replicate the clarity of sight that we see in real life ... hence the icon system.

Typo.  Sorry 'bout that.

I just mentioned the 200yd distance because that is a distance that some of the real fine features or markings of a certain model aircraft would be more easily seen and therefore more easily diferanciated from the other models.  Heck, I dont care, make it 400yds.  Currently, I can tell a certain aircraft frame (Spit) is coming from 6k out (?) and when it gets inside 600yrds (?) I can tell it is a 8/9/1/16/14/ or 5.  I like that feature, I just made a suggestion based on what I know 200yards to be.  At 200 yards and 65mph, being able to tell the difference from a 2004 Ford Mustang GT and a 2004 Ford Mustang X model is much easier vs telling the difference at 600yards.

Enemy indicators would simply show a red "x" or "con", or whatever until they are within that shorter distance(200-600yds?).  Those of us that have been playing long enough would be able to spot the Spitfire/Typhoon/Bf109/P38/Fw190/A6M2/Lancs/etc at 1000yds plus.  Remember that. We'd be relying on some experience.  We'd actually have to think instead of just being told info.  Oh the horror!  :D
