My  only move on the merge is to try and get under and slightly to the right of oncoming bogey. When said bogey is 1k away,I pull stick back to my oversize gut,and kicked hard left rudder.Depending on the bandit type and pilot skill,I end up behind bandit or with bandit coming at me for his ho shot. That's all I got.Been playing flight sims a long time, and I win some and lose some.I've been beaten bad by a lot of superior pilots with my one and only move, and I tip my hat to their flying ability. The ones I manage to defeat,I tip my hat to them as well.I can't lose them all!

And I thought I was the only one that mastered this maneuver.  I wonder what would happen if two masters such as ourselves were to go against each other.

That, sir, is a recipe for a collision!   First one to chew tree bark wins  :salute

Also, this statement from yanksfan grabbed my attention
Quote
But in the time that i have been playing the one thing i know for sure is that I don't know how much I don't know.

I don't think I want to know how much I don't know.  I am not good, but if I play regularly, and am patiently aggressive in the fights, I can usually give a decent battle.  I think that using 1 move all the time is a mistake, since no move is unbeatable (is it?), but I usually fall into a typical pattern myself.  Can't seem to help myself, usually, merge, vertical, spiralling turn fight that ends up with me in a flat turn trying to get some E so I can climb a bit in the turns.  I usually am shot down right about this point.

If you seek out some of the uber sticks you'll find most of them are more then willing to help you, Fighting in the DA or the TA with these guys will improve your skills without you even realizeing it. You'll get your butt kicked in a thousand different directions, but you will definitly get a grasp on how much you don't know. You'll learn alot, you'll have fun, you'll make new freinds and you'll understand why these guys laugh at those who play the game with the "get a kill and land it at all cost" mentality.

As SkyRock once told me "The fun is the fight". There is no shame in looseing after you have tryed your best.

That being said, I still suc and I probably always will. :D

What I take pride in, is a decent fight against a good opponent.  I'd like to think that folks know when they see that low 38G that it won't run, shoot em in the face on the merge or hide in the horde.

But hey, if you take pride in thinking avoiding the fight matters, then you go for it sir.  I hope you have a grand old time of it :aok

Not to contradict you, Sir, but I was shot down by you twice last tour by ho shots on the first merge. I don't mind it much (after the fact), but to be honest, we all do it, even if it is only on occasion, we might not remember or notice; even though I try very hard not to. Like you I take pride in a clean merge and trying to gain a win by gaining an opponents six (I get shot down alot :D).

I like the fight, shooting someone down is just gravy. There are two times one can expect me to ho , if I am low and slow in a p-47 or I am out numbered more than two to one.  Salute to you and the other doggon p38 pilots, you guys throw those buffs around very well. I have come to expect a ho shot on every merge in every arena, and I am pleasantly surprised when it doesn't happen, which is rare indeed.  :salute

I suck but I have advice for you.  If there's one thing I've learned, it's that if there's a good pilot working a praticular area of the map, just stay away.  Pick another target with your P-47 and level bomb it, then run like a schoolgirl to land before any enemies show up.  If you do get caught, do everything you can to HO the enemy.   Also, do not ever try landing on a carrier.

Improvement comes with playing time, which i do not have.  Lucky when I can get in 10 hours in a tour.  I am expecting that situation to improve soon (moving closer to my place of work), so I'll be able to actually get a bit of time through the week.

Truth is, I don't really want to "improve" by getting shot down over and over in the DA.  In those situations I either get frustrated or nervous or both and really don't get much enjoyment out of it.  The old dueling ladder was fun, but I didn't have a lot of time for that one either.

Right now what I really want....is to be a top notch torpedo dropper.  :)

I do this merge every time I'm co alt and Co E with an enemy in my 38. Dive down a bit to gain E, pull hard vertical up and around 180 degrees whilst chopping throttle and popping flaps. Usually gets on the enemies 6 VERY quickly and I can control the fight most of the time from there.

The merge is courtesy of Pawz.  :)  :salute

That tells me that most people you pull that on ... don't look back when starting their zoom ... I always look back and it would take 1 second to realize what your doing and then causing me to continue my zoom all the while watching for your first sign of stall ... and then drop down on you like a rock with 4/6 .50 cals blazing.

Checking your 6 in a zoom, after a merge, will also easily defeat Stephen's "trick" move too if you have an equal or E advantage.

For some reason ... I was thinking the EXACT same thing.

He posted on ... March 31, 2008 ... and then his next post was ... May 26, 2008 ... wasn't that around the time that Stephen Waldron got whacked with the PNG stick ?

Hmmm ... so he wants to upgrade his PNG status to BAN status ... interesting.

Neg, they're different.   I believe waldron used the same avatar for a stretch before eliminating his altogether.   A8PopySeed (stephen) is a coolcat in game.

I guess you haven't been to the DA lately..  No such thing as a fair fight, there..  Everyone hoes, everyone picks...  Where have you been??

Wonna duel?, go to the DA., want a fair fight? go to the DA...
Pickers, Vulchers, Runners, I wear the labels with pride, as do many of the other pilots in here.
One tactic isnt flown to the exclusion of another, we roll with the punches in here and do what is neccesary to survive, SO all the whiners (and I wont risk this thread to point out the obviouse names/sigs.) save up all your finger pointing, and try to fly smart.

That said, My favorite merge tactic is to dive a bit before pulling up in the vertical, turning into the nme whilst pulling throttle, and raking his cockpit....This works most of the time if our energy states are similair, and is pretty sneaky if done correctly.
The point of diving into the merge is to set your opponent up, he thinks you are gaing E to Make the fight vertical, and you convince him of this by pulling into the vertical just before the merge, the trick is pulling throttle all the way back momentarily to gain the edge in turning radius, in his attempt to do the same he will more than likly give you an even better shot .

Ok tell me what you think, and pass on any tricks/tactic you might have...underhanded or not I ultimatly respect the guy that gets me, unseen or otherwise <S>ROOKS  :aok

I like classy, beautiful, intelligent woman that say the "F" word a lot....
