new monitor and it's nice buttt Shimmering
« on: July 07, 2008, 08:52:33 PM »
Okay folks, just got a new LCD. I'm getting a considerable amount of shimmering. I'm using the DVI connection. I have it at 2x AA. Not sure what else to tell you.

Oh, the Resolution is at 1440 x 900 and it's a 24 inch display.

Sure could use some help. This is my first Flat panel. It's an Acer.

That's not normal.  Double check your Hz settings and change your resolutions around.

Oops, didn't realize it came with drivers. Installed the drivers and it seems much better. Had 7 kills against shimmering planes earlier.  :rofl

Wow though, what a huge difference in game play. I think my old CRT has about had it. It's flickering.

Just got a new 19.1" WS a few days ago myself but luckily I didn't have that problem, not even sure what you mean by "shimmering". Still use my old 17" CRT for a secondary monitor though haha.

I took a quick test flight after loading the drivers and the shimmering is gone. I think I have a few things to learn about this monitor. It seems you can run 2 different connections from it at the same time. Anyone done this?

Falcon, update your drivers for your monitor. My first thought when I saw all the shimmering was "So this is what Falcon was talking about".

Two connections at the same time? Sounds pointless. I know some monitors (like mine) have both VGA and DVI hook-ups on the back but you should only have to use one or the other, I suggest the DVI if possible.

Getback you don't mention the kind of vid card you're using. If it's an Geforce, try these settings:

My personal take on the shimmering is it being the result of a 24" monitor producing too much detail. You'll get used to it but try those settings.

#1 I'm going to have to quit thinking one solution fits all problems. Otherwise it is known as the Hammer Theory. Back in the day the Hammer was the all purpose tool!

Howsoever, have you updated your drivers?

It's a ATI Radeon HD 3850. However some of those settings still apply. What does triple filtering do?
