Ammunition Quanity Loadout Option Please
« on: March 15, 2000, 06:38:00 AM »
Pyro,

Would it be possible to add an ammunition loadout option to the P-51 (or any plane for that matter), that would allow us to choose how much ammunition we carry?

The P-38 has this as one of its "guns" options, and in WB's you guys had a "fighter" option for the P-47.

The reason is that I very very rarely even use half my ammunition on a sortie in a P-51, and its just so much dead weight that reduces performance. I could go to the x4 gun option, but that reduces your overall hitting power on an already weak gun set.

I guess I could also just "shoot off" about half of my ammo before I take off, but since we are scored on accuracy this is not really an option.

Maybe set it up similar to the fuel load option?

Well. I'm still tryin to figure this out myself.
Is the scoring of hit% based on what you have shot off at a bogy and what % of that expended ammo hits?  Or is it a percentage caclulated on what you shot that hit a bogy against what you took off with from the start?
If I take off with 1,000 rounds and only 100 of my fired rounds strike is that the hit%?
Or is it I took off with a 1000 rounds, only fired 100 rounds but 20 of those shells hit an enemy plane, so it's 5% of 100?

Either way I'm not good enough to leave any ammo behind yet to be honest

But some year in the future it would be nice to ake off with less weight if I wanted to.

I understand you perfectly.

Yes, being able to "lighten the load" would help the performance of, say, a 190. That cannon ammo is heavy, and any reduction in the ammount of ammo won't hurt your lethality, only the duration of fire.

I take the 4x20 option on the 51. This is to make it lighter, but the punch drops 33%. I would rather dump ammo than guns.

And what Vermillion means is, if he launches with a full load and fires off half of it (to dump it) his hit % (and score) drop. He doesn't want that penalty for a lighter plane.

Agreed, 109 for example uses all of its 30mm while it still has most of the 13mm ammo left. Choosing to take less 13mm rounds would be nice addition.

BTW, are MG 131 13mm rounds HE ? Should be, right ?

You know, what might be nice is a dot command to adjust this, such as:

.ammo gun 2 65

for ammununition, secondary gun, 65%.

Don't know if it is possible, might be nice.

Wonder if it is now modeled so the plane gets lighter as ammo is used.
If so I vote yes.

% fuel in increments of 1 would also be cool
