Looks like I'll be off this weekend. Sent a note to confirm. Should be interesting, all these years and I was completely unaware there was an air show there. The Chicago shows become a bit of a hassle since I moved from downtown.Will there be a spot to meet up or should I just bring a flare gun?

This won't be the actual air show Sat. & Sun. this is for Friday night. I don't go on Sat. & Sun. because it is just like the Chicago one and it too is a hassle like Chicago has become. The night shows at the airport are worth the trip and very spaced not a hassle like the day shows. The show at dusk. Starts at 6p.m. here is the link .....

The Thursday before the Chicago one is another great night show at the airport in August ... I'll post on that next month. I pm'd you my cell for tomorrow night.

I usually work weekend nights (Fri/Sat). This week's not booked at all unless a last minute thing comes up. I'm still waiting for the confirmation. I'll check my pm's.

LOL, the crime is over rated (they tend to kill themselves on the south side of Gary), the show is on the NW side and absolutely safe, massive police protection at events in Gary, usually not needed. You can take the toll road right to the place, you don't see the city at all. Very safe. The south side of Chicago is prolly more unsafe then the air show by far.

They stage the August Chicago AS at Gary, so I go to watch the staging, then bop across the lake to watch the show in Chicago.

Parking Available at the Airport Terminal

They didn't allow this since 911, and no parking on the road means they must be letting us back into the AP parking lot which is right up against the fence next to the AC. I thought I heard they opened it back up, maybe this is what it means. Last time I went they wouldn't even let you park in the parking lot. <thumbs crossed> If so you can talk to the pilots and and see the AC up close.

Yeppers, they did the 5 dollar charge and park in lot last year too I forgot. All the years before 2007 were on the grass accross the street since 9/11. I can't keep it all straight. As of last year they charge 5 bucks and they have the facilty open for food and restrooms Whooo Hoooo no more port a pottys 

LOL NW Gary very cool! I grew up in Chicago and I had worse parts walking to my high school there then I do now living ten minutes from Gary. That was many moons ago ... but, I agree the event is fantastic and well put together ... from the security to the pyrotechnics!!

I am sorry SGY that weekend i got Virtual Airshow on FS i committed too long before i knew about this. I am considering saturday though, the show is on sunday. BTW i fly a spitfire for my FS Team.

Its located in Loves Park, IL.  Id like to get sick to be able to go to the show, but I really need the $$$ to pay the many bills that are besieging me at present.  Have a blast and drink a pint or 10 for me.

They really cleaned it up! The air show was cool. Not as awesome as it is before the Chicago Air & Water Show but, it was cool to hang with my girl!!
