No there was no vote on the gun issue,
and the mouthpiece Rebbecca was a convenient load noise of a minority that suited Howards agenda for his type of politics.
Anyway there was over 3.5 million semi auto rifles imported into Australia alone from 1958 till the banning.
All of 650,000 semi auto rifles and semi auto and pump action shotguns where handed in, Hmmmmm I wonder what happened to the rest of em.
Thankfully Aussie's are from good convict stock  :aok

just sayin

Any other comments on this Ill make in the gun thread if urged

Meh who has to pay some sorta tax to have a supressor on their rifle - sounds like some sort of commie country to me.

Anyhoo, I'd welcome our new Aussie overlords, they might negate all the Maori land/$$$ claims. And some of those aussie chicks would be nice (as long as they don't talk).

My original post was short of some facts as I was at work at the time & pressed for a proper responce. In 1996 when Prime Minister Howard enacted the new gun laws he stated that this would upset a lot of Australians & if so they could show there frustrations at the ballot box. Since all Australians must enroll to vote & show up @ election time to vote. The general population failed to take up Prime Minister Howard on the gun ban issue as most Australians agreed with him at the time. As it is here in the USA the majority rules. So we are stuck for now with those restrictions the Australian people spoke by reelecting John Howard & also voted in his gun policy's by doing so. The majority of Australians seem to be in favour still of the laws John Howard passed & I don't see them being over turned any time soon.

The Australian public didn't vote a Prime Minister in on this one issue, especially when the spin doctors were working overtime to distract them from anything important with the "Babies Overboard" BS and keeping the hoards of boat people from invading the north shores.
And the Labour Party had no shiny objects in hand at the time to get the publics attention.
But then I guess those people also believed him when he said he wasn't going to introduce a GST or sell off Tesltra.
Still the country is a  much safer place now, right.

Well, if you want to mess with the New Zealanders, try their Rugby team.
(For american football, the rules are a tad similar, just remove all protection  :devil)
The "HAKA"

And more, hehe, look at the expressionon the opponents :D

Now the last one is going to make you laugh hard. Take the NZ "HAKA" and mix it with French culture, spice with USA cheer leader culture, and make the performers...female :D
ENJOY
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Love it when these guys do that.

Dont have to be a Kiwi to get the hairs up on the back of the neck listening to a "HAKA".  :aok
