immelman performed by lancasters
« on: July 11, 2008, 09:59:07 AM »
this morning i witnessed along with two other defenders a set of lancasters dive on a v-base hit a hanger do a immelman twice without losing a drone. he eventually killed all 3 hangers. plus the lancasters we hard to hit with a wirble beyond 800 meters that was also wierd. the 3 lancs were finally shot down. 1 by me and two by another defender. comments?

Standard. Happens all the time. Bit dweeby but I know a few guys that do this regularly and with high degree of accuracy.

Lancs frequently pulled all sorts of crazy corkscrew maneuvers (with bombs still slung up) to evade German fighters. Crew members came back with broken arms and legs for the violence of the maneuvers.

Whilst suicide carpet bombing is a great way to ruin everyone's fun really quickly (and thus dweeby, in my opinion) the sharp maneuvers probably aren't that far out of the aircraft's war-time envelope.

The Hurricane's ability to dive with the biggest, baddest and heaviest American steel is more puzzling to me.

Also, if you're trying to mow down lancs in a weeble wobble, you're in the wrong GV.

true but that guy kept all his drones. i can understand a single lanc doing it but all 3 in formation. id lose my drones every time.

deal with it.

as for not hitting them at 800 yards....well, it was probably more your gunnery than anything. i can't hit anything from a wirble.....

source?

That is a good question. IIRC it was a story from a Lanc navigator.

I don't chuck around nonsense and I remember clearly reading a particularly in-depth account from a Lanc crew. Now that I think about it, I suspect that it was an aviation magazine. Not FlyPast but something similar and it was definitely a crew account.

It's the sort of thing that sticks in your mind... I was amazed that the pilot could do such a thing with such a massive aircraft.

If I've got time I'll dig around through my old mags and see if I can find the correct issue.
