Dumb Question #18 of 145
« on: July 11, 2008, 04:52:23 PM »
keep in mind I've only been here a few months......

I was wondering ..... has there ever been any teams or squadrons here who have ever put on a synchronized air show in Aces High?

Usually when a player dies an airshow of some sort is put on. I don't think there are any squadrons dedicated to it though.

They do a memorial fly by type of thing for that. As for an air show....... why?  :huh Its a fighter game, not a flying circus, although we do have our share of clowns!

not that I've ever heard of, why would anyone want to? Its a fighter game. You want to fly "pretty" go fly "Flight Sim X"

I usually go into the TA, turn on smoke and do a bunch of crazy stunts. I've been told it's somewhat of an airshow when I don't screw up!  :lol

it strikes me odd that nobody in however many years this place has been here.......has not even attempted that....

I don't particularly think I would use the adjective "pretty" to describe some synced combat formation manuevers......but to each her own TF

as most of you can see from my posts here........ I think in shades of grey...

I'll take the answer as a qualified "no" and move on.

It has been discussed but the idea never took off.  As aforementioned the only times the community gets together is to do a memorial service.

I've seen some impressively organized bomber flights... that is... until their bombs dropped. Then I saw the tower.  Those were nice looking though.  :aok

Notch, HB555 and Myself (Rep0man trained with us but was unable to make the memorial flight) have done an airshow type display for 68KO.

I have more footage of the evening however I had some issues with the film viewer at the time with too many stutters with the airplanes in close formation.

Since you don't appear to have taken the hint, I'll give you more ... {grin}.

Let's take the simplest of formations - a 3 aircraft formation wingtip to wingtip in level flight - start with 2 of you, with a foot or two between you and your partner. Assuming 250 ms of lag between you and your partner at a speed of 250 MPH, how are you and a partner going to fly in such a manner that you are wing tip to wing tip from the point of view of an onlooker? You can't fly wingtip to wingtip with your partner on your FE, that puts you about 30 yards ahead of him with respect to the observer. Nor can he try to position himself wingtip to wingtip to you. Now, add in a 3rd player, with another lag value.  Where does he fly, and how does he orient himself to the both of you?

Now , add in another observer, and another, each with a different amount of lag from the first, and each with varying amounts of lag from you and your partners.  What do they see?
