According to Speedfan, my CPU is at 31 C, this case is cold.   

When I get into the point of where the Arena clipboards appear, I lock up.   The cursor locks up and I cannot get out of it.   I realize my VC needs replacing, BUT, last Saturday I played this game on a 3500+ with the identical VC.   Something is telling me, there is something else going on.

Karaya, I sure don't know what to tell you there. Are you using onboard sound? Also check to see in the task manager what is running. That chip should be able to handle anything though.


Another idea, did you load any intel disk managers?

did you install all the chipset drivers and such that came with the MOBO? are you using the same drivers as the old build? what size PSU are you using? could be a number of things, but, i could be the VC is finally failing.

I can play JO, little bit of artifacts, but playable.   

I installed all drivers on my ASUS disk, P35 drivers, RAID drivers (don't use em).  I AM using onboard sound.   I have the SB Audigy sitting here, I wanted to throw it in, but we didn't at the last minute.   

I knew I forgot something:

PS is a PC&Cooling 750W Silencer.

if your going to use onboard sound, it is recommended you turn it down to 75% or lower. other than that, not sure.

Even though the VC ran fine on a 3500+, consider it's now working harder with a faster processor.
Make sure the audio drivers are the latest one's and that you have your Bios flashed to the latest.
Heat shouldn't be an issue since the game doesn't even get started before lock up.

What configuration is the RAM?  4 sticks of 1GB each?  If so, remove two of the sticks.  Or, reduce the memory speed to DDR2-800 and see if the problems go away.

The P5K-E motherboard chipset officially only supports DDR2-800 speed, but ASUS allowed overclocking to DDR2-1066.  I have had a number of issues running some P5K motheroards at over DDR2-800 speeds.

If you are getting any artificats at all, that suggests memory timinig issues.

2GB x 2.   I was able to play Sat. night.   Game is gonna take a week or two to get used to.   I've realized what I have been missing.

Might be on the edge then.  Try kicking the memory speed back to DDR2-1000.  If I recall, ASUS has that as a preconfigured option in the BIOS settings.  Also watch the RAM voltage levels and make sure he BIOS is set to use what the RAM manufacturer specs for their RAM.

Karaya, if what Skuzzy said doesn't work you may want to consider doing an RMA for a different MB. Just a thought.
