Range radio - text and vox?
« on: July 13, 2008, 03:01:41 PM »
I would like a text radio channel which was connected to the range vox channel.

I don't use vox and if someone close talks to me (and we didn't take off from same base), I can only respond with private message (country or 200 would be overkill).

Or have I misunderstood something?

Yes he is. And he is simply wishing for a text "range" channel just like we already have a vox "range" channel.

yes - the range channel.

It seems it works differently on vox and text:

vox = talk to all nearby
text = talk to all who took of from same airfield as you.

Right?

Correct  :aok
With room text you only talk to the people that took off from the same field as you. I'm not sure why they call it room text, it should be called airport text.

Umm.. it's not called range text. It's "Room"

Different rooms are the Tower, the Oclub, the Hangar and last but not least all that spawned from that base, GV's & planes alike.

Lusche - you shouldn't have change to snailman - AHguru would have been way more appropriate  :aok

Also, I don't think we can de-tune vox range channel, so to keep things consistent and simple to understand, neither should the text range channel be de-tunable.

No kiddin?  Man, four years and I've always assumed the purple text let you talk to people near by...

Huh.

Too bad this forum is probably avoided like the plague by HTC come summer.  This is an idea that really would be useful.

Exactly Vudak, in my opinion it should work that way.
As it is now I can't see the purpose - people from the same airfield takes off in every direction, why would I want a radio channel for them.

You have to remember, channel 3 was built LONG before Range based Vox came to AH.

As such it was and still is a good tool. Its just not the tool a lot of AH'ers think it is.
It works perfectly within its parameters. You just need to know what those parameters are to use it effectively.

Personally I use it daily and would HATE to see it changed.

You want  range based communications, get a mic.
