If you could do it all over again...
« on: July 15, 2008, 09:54:48 AM »
If you could go back in time, to any point in your life, and do something differently, be it a one-time decision, or an entire path, what would it be?

Or on the other hand, if there is one thing that you really want to do, be it a single decision, or a new path, what would it be?

I want to publish action/adventure novels. Fiction writing is just a hobby for me, and has been since I was a teenager, but the thousands of pages I've generated through the years remains in the forgotten corners of my hard-drive, and for many of the stories, the corners of my mind.

I hope to one day do this on a practical level--maybe not as a living, but at the very least in a way to reach an audience broader than my own sense of self-satisfaction.

I'd go back to the day that the daughter of the founder of home shopping channel sat in my partners and my office and said "daddy is going public tomorrow...you should join us"...and we said, "it will never work."

I also walked into hooters their very first day and told the 5 partners "I'm from buffalo..and I want to tell you that this will never work".  One of them reminds me of that every time I see him.

I want to be a moderator, remove some existing posters and let some come back.

You should provide a partial list, just so that we can understand what sort of level you want to be operating on, as a moderator...

I don't think I'd change anything at all... not even the mistakes.

Ok, fair enough. No regrets is a good policy.

So what do you want to do that you haven't done yet?

Making mistakes are lessons that we learn from the most.
The only thing different I would have done is to visiit my grandfathers more often when they were alive. Once I turned 18, I never saw them again, except at their funerals.

I would go back to 1990 and not decline the offer to go on a date with a certain co-worker.

On the flip side, I would go back to 1994 and decline the offer to go on a date with a friend of a friend (and subsequently waste the next 18 months of my life).

If I could do it again, I'd definately delay going to college.  Military, real work, something.

After 18 years of schooling, I'm about fed up with it and can't find any motivation to finish.

Well I've made more than my fair share of mistakes ... and if I had to do it over I would probably just make different ones ... and they might have turned out worse.
But if I could just change a single decision ... give me the 5 minutes from 9am to 9:05am EST March 14, 1986 ... I damn well know I could make a better decision than whatever one I made then.

Yes.

I'd go back to December 18, 1975 and inform my coach I was quitting wrestling, and never wrestle or play football again.

I'd go out and buy the best guitar I could get my hands on...and at the same time I would study my butt off for college.

Things would have turned out very differently.

I have plenty of regrets, but I'm still finding out where they're going to lead me.  So I wouldn't change a thing.
