Tracers have different balistics then the non tracer ammo which is the vast majority of yr ammo load. If you aim with tracers, 80% of yr rounds miss, because 4/5 of bullets have no tracer. So why advertise that yr aim sucks with tracers when you can turn them off, save face and not give the guy a clue he's been fired upon

Off for practice, on for combat. I notice that without tracers i use more ammo. I have played without tracers for months and when i turn them back on i do notice my kills per run go up. Also i use them to scare people to turn. Mostly my aim is very good so i really don't see the need of turning them off because when i do fire my average hit % is so high that's its too late for the enemy.

Not in this game.

I have tracers on most of the time. Can't hit anymore if I keep them off for more than a day.

I've tried both extensively. My analysis is conclusive. The 'sneaky' factor of having them off is vastly outweighed by the ability to use tracers to coerce a fleeing foe to break-turn, offering a nice high profile deflection shot with closure instead of a low-profile extreme range dead six shot...

Having tracers off is really only useful in two situations that I can think of...

1) You shoot at an enemy that is unaware of your presence and you usually miss with the first burst...If you usually hit these types of targets with the first squirt there's really not any point to having tracers off, he's going to realize you're there anyway when stuff starts falling off his plane...;)

2) You like to HO and want to 'sucker' the other guy into thinking you are not going to guns on the nose to nose merge...I find people who do this extremely irritating. You think you are about to have a fight then the next thing you know you get a face full of invisible HO.

Tracers off in Wirbles really helps :aok  Bombers can't see the spray and zero in on ya. Also the people vulching the field have no idea you are shooting at them :rofl

I find in aircraft you actually look for hits rather than staring at the tracers. :aok

Not unless your me ... for some reason, the dead six shot is my worst. I always prefer the deflection shot.

Mine have always been ON since day 1.

Off, most of the time.

If I'm in a ship with guns I'm not familiar with (for FSO, etc) or in an M-16 I turn them back on.

I still wish HTC would make this as a plane-by-plane setting in the hangar.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.
