I had them on for ages, I turned them off for a while, but I've turned them back on again for now. I wish I could select them in the hangar (and the system would remember the setting).

Most real aces that i have read about had tracers,And i keep mine on for a multitude of reasons.I would like to be able to keep them on for my bird and keep them off with flack guns, without having to change it all the time though.

Like has been said before, I would love a gun by gun selection on the tracers.

I loved having the 30mm tracers off (though you probably should be able to see a slight trail or glint of the round.....nothing like the standard tracer trail we have now) and it was fine when I went through a stage where I flew the K4 90% of the time. I could hit pretty consistantly at over 400 yards with the 30mm, even in turn fights. 800+ on level and running targets (who wouldn't evade because they couldn't tell you were firing). Pulling the tail section off a running Pony at 800 yards always cracked me up.

I almost ruined the K4 for myself by flying it so often, so I branched out and realised that I had difficulty hitting anything at all with any other sort of weapon. I couldn't hit a single thing with 20mm cannon, .50 cals and 303s, so I turned the tracers back on.

I still have them on because I try to fly lots of different things these days. I've taken a liking to the Mossie lately. It's a great multi-role fighter/attack aircraft.

Mine are on...

Only reason I can see to have them off, is if you are trying to sneak up on someone which I rarely do. I personally want to other con to see me coming because I'm after a fight. I'd rather duke it out with a con that turns rather than auto climb pick him. I don't HO, so having them off for that reason is of no concern to me, as again I'd rather fight the con than make some lame HO shot.

I've been flying the K4 pretty much all the time lately and it's tatter tracer is only on every other round. I only use the smaller machine guns on a K4 in a snapshot turn, so the tracers on those make very little difference to me.

Interesting the maximum I've ever hit a straight and level fighter with a single 37mm round was at 600 on a Typhoon as he was pulling away and I thought that was an exceptional shot. Under 400 not a problem but prefer under 200 for anything turning. Best is just off the nose snap shots.

But no matter what the range it's a bit like shooting ducks with a very large calibre single shot rifle, frustrating at times but very entertaining when they hit.  :t

The best shot I've ever had with the 37mm was a pony HO at 1.2k
Lucky as hell but funny too. :lol

Man, I dunno why but I can hit snap shots much easier in a tatter plane even at 400ft vs trying to hit a guy when you are right behind them. In a regular fighter with normal guns then a 400ft shot from direct 6 is a breez but tatter plane it can be quite hard and if they are bobbing and weeving then you better hope for a lucky hit.
