we got throttle & prop but no mixture control.

and I do believe AH is set to autofull rich at 5000 gph

I calulated the p38s fuel consumption rate a while back off a 150 gallon drop tank and came up with a number about 5000 gph or so which is no doubt for game play.

but it would be cool to be able to lean out the fuel the way Lindberg taught those p38 pilots too since they were getting poor range from their aircraft

Second that!

All we need really is a toggle for Auto Rich / Auto Lean..
With fuel consumption and range a real factor in the sim, something I like, this is a worth while feature.

I thought they were told to run high MAP and low RPM to conserve fuel, which is the same thing the RAF told Spitfire pilots to do in 1941.

5000gph? That cannot be right. If it was, the Me109 would have about 5 minutes flying time...

According to the P-38 Pilots Manual. The L model with the V-1710-111 and the V-1710-113 engines, should perform as follows at max continous throttle settings (note this is not WEP, adjust engines accordingly)

RPM: 2600
Mixture: Auto Rich
Manifold: 44"
Gallons Fuel Consume per Hour: 245

So if you consider the arena setting of x2.5, the Aces High P-38 will consume 612.5 gph.

That means that a single 150 gallon drop tank should last 14 minutes and 42 seconds if you have your engines settings correct.

Easy enought test. But I am gonna go eat dinner, and let one of you P-38 drivers do the test
