Frame 2: DER ZWEITE BLITZ AAR/Pics
« on: July 18, 2008, 11:37:56 PM »
Mongrels didn't fair well.  18 upped, 1 disco, 1 bail, 1 ditch, 15 killed or crashed versus 13 scalps we took.  LCA and the others <S>.

20Charly -- a special salute to you -- I think you managed 3 or 4 of our scalps.

Here's the beginning of the end for me:

and here I am a minute or two later with 20Charly hounding me and 4 others on Kansas2 and Baumer.  At this point Baumer is bingo ammo and we're just trying to rtb.

My night ended seconds later after the 5th pass by 20Charly.

We were the other squadron in that fight, the group of 152s that dropped on your heads while you were mixed up on the deck with LCA. That actually worked out more or less by plan, to have LCA pull any contacts down so we could drop on them. We just didn't get there as soon as I would have liked, and we were hoping LCA would keep the fight closer to 15-20k. ;) We ended up losing one to a ripped wing, and NEARLY lost two to compression on our dive in from 30k, lol!

Just for reference, were there any other Allied squads in Sector Delta? You guys were the only cons we saw there all night, unless someone else was in 15.16 (we crossed 16.16 to patrol 16.17 so would have seen anyone in those two sectors).
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

All I wanted to do was bring my 262 home. Everything was fine until we re-upped and tangled with some Tempests near A72-73. Either one made a heck of a shot or I was a little aggressive on the controls/throttle. With both wing tips and ailerons missing and headed towards England, I had to reverse direction and fly back through the fight to try and get home. Finally A72 was cleared so I nursed it around and somehow got there. Flaps, rudder, and trim was the only way to get her turned since there was no roll. Felt good to set her down :aok. Nice trap those guys laid at A72-73.  :salute

Shadows make it look a bit stealthy huh?

Finally home

Dammo but that's a sweet landing!  Did you try slowing one engine to help you turn?

We arrived to 72-73 area at 15k, engaged a group of P47s then all hell broke loose. It seemed all of the remaining allied fighters in the W were converging on us. For some reason I was singled out and shot down by a mixed group of fighters. It was like I had a L sign on me or something, maybe I just looked stupid >< I dunno, but they all jumped on me. Was going to give them the and pull away but several Tempests and P47Ns came in from high alt with ~500 mph forcing me to maneuver, effectively slowing me down, my window of escape was closed. I called for help , but the guys seemed to have a hard time hitting the pursuers and I don't blame 'em with these low velocity 30s. Hitting someting with the 30s in a 262 is like bowling leaning out the door of a car doing 90 mph.  :furious

Here's a pic of my 262 going down.

In the first sortie (before rearm) I managed to down 4 spits, was a good fight. In total we bagged 7, which is so-so but we did a good job especially considering we pulled the spits away from the 234s. Staying alive in the 262 is a challenge if you also want to fight, especially considering the opposition we're facing.

 :salute to all involved

Saxman -- the other squad assigned to Delta (northern most fighter sweep) was a no show and the mongrels were slightly under our commitment level, so yeah, the only fighters were us who you shot down by T+60.

Looking at the logs with your squad we were effectively out numbered 29 to 17.  Given that, we did well to get 13 scalps before we were killed.  I know I had a target rich environment, kept breaking downward to clear squadies sixes and we as a squad were never able to pursue the 190s we'd isolated and were hunting down due to the calls for help from other squadies.

cc, and by that time we wouldn't have had time to rearm and head elsewhere (we had all recovered by just after T+75 to T+80). That's the biggest complaint I PERSONALLY have (I'm sure other squads have other complaints) so far about this setup: because of the jets, the action is just too spread out for the props to find another fight once action in their objective area dries up.

lol RATT that was good.
Kinda looked like the Mongrels, but forHIM is right, we were low on numbers and the other squad that was assigned to our area was a no-show. Those things happen.

Just wish I could aim airplanes that have guns on their wings. I don't know how you guys do it. I much prefer the everything coming out my nose.  :D

33Vortex I really enjoyed your post too. :)

Here is a quickie film I made. Nothing special. Just a chase view from my AC showing what a goofy goober I am and how I can't kill anything.  :cry

We didn't have much luck at the end of the frame, but looked good at the beginning...
