I used to be against the idea of gays serving openly in the military because I thought that there would be a negative effect on morale. But actual experience doesn't bear this out:
Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the UK allow gays and lesbians to serve freely. You don't hear about about any problems... there have been no reports of mass resignations, organizational collapse, or fewer enlistments due to allowing them to serve openly.
so I kind of don't care about this any more. If it happens in the US Military, I think it would wind up being a non-issue after a little while.
