Yes Bombs named as 100 lb etc etc up to the 12 k lb bombs the lancs could carry (the 4500 isnt the biggest one they had), all go by the weight of the unit, not the force of the blast. That was then and that is now.  Only Nuclear weapons are termed by their effective force comparable to pounds of dynamite.  The reasons for this are fairly obvious. A pilot or a ground crew loading a plane would like very much to know the weight of the unit going on the plane thank you verymuch.  The effectiveness of the bomb may be judged as well. Now nukes needed a whole new math to communicate to the public/generals/enemy just how powerful they were. Not at all the same system. Sooo today a 1 k bomb still weighs 1 k, unless its lying about its weightout of conceit?
