Need a hand with a reading list
« on: July 22, 2008, 08:04:24 PM »
Alright, I have to pick one of the following books to read:

The Glass Menagerie
Summer and Smoke
Sweet Bird of Youth
Suddenly Last Summer

So, having never heard of any of these, I was hoping you all could suggest one to pick. I have a LOT of stuff to do in addition to reading one, so the shortest, least boring would be very nice.

lol. Sadly. This is an assignment for english class. I have to pick one to read, and compare and contrast the main female charactor to another female charactor in some play.

Glass Menagerie. Check out the 1987 film. Think of it as video CliffsNotes.

Or why not just go for the real thing (online & FREE):

I have read The Glass Menagerie and from what I remember it was a pretty good book. I don't remember a whole lot about it since I read it for an english lit class my freshman year of college.

The Glass Menagerie.

Tennessee Williams is a good writer.  This would probably be the least boring of the choices as Williams originally wrote it as a screenplay for MGM.  It was actually written with the intent of it being a play or movie.

Serenity if you get assigned old books, there's some chance some of them are available here.. http://www.gutenberg.org/
A digital version could be useful when you need to backtrack to some section using the find (ctrl+f) function.  Idealy though, when you write these kinds of essays, you know the material by heart, from head to toe.
