Ahh well ddoug, what can I tell ya bud.
I was introduced to the game by a rather unfortunate set of circumstances that made me quite immobile for some months. I was young, not married yet and my long time partner and I decided it wasn't working out (yes I know many of you are crying by now.. buuuhuhuhu what a saaaadd stowwwyyy) Thus I was left with a lot of time on my hands after work.
Now I am on a 2.5 month break and I am looking forward to coming back.
This game is a great one, because of the community. If htc managed to build up a loyal fan base, I'd say they are 100% successful. I as well as many others are proof of that.
In my opinion you did not manage your time wisely, and on are still in a place in your life where you feel you are fighting against unsurmountable odds and therefore blame this for your shortcomings. Take some time out, relax and I'm sure many of us will welcome you back

Good luck with whatever you do. Even though I maintained my subscription, I took an almost 6 month long hiatus just over a year back.
I couldn't wait to get back into the game again, I even built a new computer just to do it.
Maybe you need a change of pace, when you come on back go Bish and hook up with us, we are not very tightly wound MA wise and we concentrate more on the scenarios and FSOs.

I am finally making good on my 'threats' to leave and killed my account.  For sure I'll miss a lot of people here, even some of the ones I just plain hate (but amuse or challenge me).  I just have better things to do than play cartoon warrior for hours on end, no offense to anyone.

I thought I posted about it last night but who knows, skuzzy may have deleted the post (in his defense he usually locks my posts, lol).  Or I posted in Mattel's Barbie arena.  Again.

The bottom line is I found other things to do than sit on a farking computer and fly cartoon planes for hours on end.  I'm not going to bash people for that because if it's your thing, well, good for you.  I did it for three years (I think) and found I was missing out on the real world.  And I got wicked behind in house chores  

Seriously, though, this is a really mediocre game made GREAT only by the players/squads.  I've had many a fun evening hooking up my squad with others and having a ball.  Or my squad (the LCA).  Heck, I know more about the LCA members than people who work across the cube wall from me, and that's a good thing (Tunes, better listen for rumbling bikes outside your door).

stare at a monitor and have nothing to show for it. I feel the same way, play for years, get fed up with players running away from you, quit for a month maybe two then come back and after a week it is the same ol thing.

You should go find something else to do that you have something to show for at the end of the day , and not some make believe score.

My advice ddoug, go check out the offline missions section of this forum, some of those missions in there are really good and whenever you get the urge to play just upload a mission, heck the A.I. on those missions fight 100 times better than the real players, for they don't runaway.

She got to another one...damn....ever since ken put on his greens she's had it in for any form of military institution. She's not for real DDoug you may feel it is but it's not....many have succumb to her treachery before and found themselves pwnd by her. Barbie will vulch, pick, ram, hoe,and run harder and with more vengance anybody here would even fathom doing to another AH'er. Just remember DDoug we will be here to support you when this happens....this is your family now.

Also, Kesmai was bought by a large corporation, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., which subsequentally found it unprofitable so sold it to Electronic Arts who discovered the same and decided to kill it entirely.

Whether or not AW was profitable or not was not going to stop EA from axing AW.  EA did not buy Kesmai for AW but rather for the networking code (forgot the name, think it was Aegis or something like that) that was used for all of Kesmai's online games.  Remember, this was the time that EA started EA.com and made major investments and development to a whole library of online games which in the end ultimately failed.  A little known fact, AW at the time it was shut down had EA's second largest paying subscriber base, at around 38,000 subscriptions.

All a matter of perspective with regard to suckiness, NoBaddy.  Fighter Ace might be considered a niche within a niche since any comparison with Aces High needs to stop at WWII-era and combat.  It's a terrific training ground for 'wobblers'.  There are some very good pilots in that game that would have no trouble at all with the learning curve of AH.  FA's still around (https://fighterace.ketsujin.com) and has a community very similar to this one.

There are a large number of ex-FA pilots here because AH represents 'the next level' of skill, knowledge, and execution in this niche.

Zazen's post is spot on.

Even with its limitations, there is a place for a Fighter Ace franchise.  HiTech and Pyro are leaders in every sense of the word.  We're a tough crowd and they are standing tough and guiding the evolution of the game in a sober way, IMHO.  

Largely, what this game is or does is based on what we make of it and what we do with it.

Anti-<S> to Hitech and company.  AH2 is *only* made great by the players, your paying customers.  The game isn't that good, even with online play, but the organization of the squads makes it really great.  You guys should be kissing your customer's butts, not ticking them off with your shenanigans.  Shame on you for that, the only reason you're in business is because nobody else does a game like this....although I recall something about M$ starting to do a game like this.  If a company like MS really  gets in the arena you're simply screwed.  But, I had fun here, so best of luck to y'all as well.

I would venture a guess you have not meet anyone who works for HTC. I have found each and everyone of them friendly, helpful, courteous, and respectful. Are they perfect? Nope. Would I do some things differently? Probably. But if they were not polite and considerate with you, consider looking in the mirror.

A lot of us are here because of squads we have become involved with. A lot of us are also here because of the support and staff who work at HTC. Can you name any other online gaming company where you can call and someone picks up the phone? Practically unheard of in this day and age.

Sounds like you need to manage your own personal time. An addiction? I know of several who have suffered from the same problem. Some seriously need help. I personally spend a lot more time doing e-mails, postings, calling, and just chatting with friends/squadies than I do just flying. It is a hobby of mine and many of the friends I have made will be life long with or without Aces High. I hope you have found the same to be true.

On a ‘prechy’ note:
Don’t think that you are on higher ground now that you have stepped away.
Don’t think that we all need to ‘step away’ for a week, or even two.
Don’t think we all struggle with the same issues you do.

Many of us have played for years and still keep our real lives in order. Should you choose to play something online in the future I hope you can come to enjoy it in a way that would be healthy for you.
