Add Weather?
« on: July 23, 2008, 04:05:26 PM »
I'm sure someone has asked this before... but couldn't find it on the board
Whats the chances weather conditions could be added to the game?
      Like:
      • Ground level coastal fog
      • Rain.... maybe snow
      • Heavy winds (in canyons, near mtn. peaks)
      • Heavy seas (real waves)

We had wind and rain in AHI (at one time)
Wish they would bring them back
and Night was damn cool to fly in.

All we get now is that sun in our face.

I think I know the answer, but never hurts to ask
       :salute

We have all of those except #4. They're just not enabled in the main arenas.

What's needed is realistic environmental weather same as MSFS within limits suitable for WW2 planes and air combat. If that isn't possible then at least more variety cloud types, layers and winds.

I have asked before, and I know what happens, so be prpared for a bashing.  What about the lag, we won't be able to fly, they didn't fly in bad weather in WWII, those are the whines so now every body can concider them said and not worry about saying them again.  :D

Oh, I forgot, " Search is your freind " there that is said also.  ;)

So if it is already there and not enabled how about having a weather day, just one day a week like Titanic Tuesday.  That would be way cool, it wouldn't even have to be in all arenas.  Maybe weather day in Blue Arena.   :aok

What about the lag, we won't be able to fly,
I have flown in these conditions in the SEA and AvA. No more noticeable lag on my comp than the custom terrains provide.

What about the lag, we won't be able to fly, they didn't fly in bad weather in WWII,
    Yes they did.

I also disagree with the arguments against weather, I was being a smart #%$  :P.

I think it would add to the game, maybe better clouds to duck into or attack out of, all part of real world dogfighting.

Ya I know this is not real world dogfighting, there I said that to.   ;)

    Yes they did.

The few instances of flying in nasty weather in highly specialized and modified aircraft are outweighed by the many hundreds of thousands of instances when pilots didn't take off because weather didn't allow them to.

The concept of an "all-weather fighter" didn't really come about until Vietnam and later.

I knew they were coming, Krusty the weather doesn't have to be nasty hurricane type weather, just a little inclement weather to spice things up, and I assure you they did not only fly on sunny windless days or else WWII wouldn't have ended when it did.

I agree that the pristine days get old a few times and I'd like to see some of the overcast we used to get.

However, when folks ask for weather they're usually talking whiteout conditions, or torrential monsoon downpours, or hurricane strength winds. Totally unrealistic.

That's why I stated this, very easy to have real time weather but still force it within limits suitable for WW2 aircraft opeations. Simulating variable weather but within limits realistic to fly in for the aircraft type.

No they are not talking about that kind of sever weather, ever, from what i have read on the weather post.  The nay sayers let there imaginations over exaggerate the weather that people have asked for but no one is asking for weather that would make game play impossible or overly difficult, I argue this every time it comes up.

Some light rain, better clouds, a little wind, very light snow fall, choppy seas, and bowling ball sized hail that takes wings off and destroys Tiger tanks.    :O  :aok

i wouldn't mind trying the wind and more clouds would be cool.
night time is a waste as all you have to do is increase the gamma settings and its daylight again.
heavy sea's would make it very difficult to take off and land. id prefer the coding be done on something diffrent.
