P-38Q 82nd Tactical Recon Squadron "Little Sir Echo"
« on: July 23, 2008, 07:20:23 PM »
The number of Q models that saw action with the USAAF must have been small, because finding pictures of them is difficult.  I actualy found this one online of all places.

The way the skin mapping is, it is not possible to put the white nose band as far forward as it should be, this is the best I can do.

Where did this aircraft see action?
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Panel-line stains seem a tad bit too dark along the tail IMHO. Other than that, brilliant!

SW Pacific Theater by the aircraft/ID markings (White Tail/Wing Leading edges)

Most likely New Guinea, Solomons or Northern Australia

The single white stripe around the nose most likely is the markings of a "Flight Leaders" aircraft. Squadron leaders usually had two stripes.

Photograph is from New Guinea in May 1944.  I believe they had them from the Fall of 1943.  The P-39s were replaced by F-6Ds in November 1944.

Looks great, Fencer.   Very few players will ever realize the white nose band isn't perfectly located.

Very well done, sir!

(Sure looks like I'm seeing the name "Fencer" in script above the exhaust manifold  :lol)

Well it not up to your 38s, but its not bad.  :)

That's "Teresa" as best as I can make out from the photo and the one decal sheet I stumbled across.

Sorry for the double post, but the pilots last name was Tate. Couldn't find his first name

http://www.pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/p-39/42-19027.html about the plane.
