TEMPS after new cooling install

Install went well,although the VC cooler was a bit of a pain,it installed...

My usual temp for the VC,A Geforce 8600GT was about 52c..That was with the fan running 100%..

 With the cooler I added..Passive I might add..it is idling at 45c.under load in-game it got about 57c..I am impressed with it..

  Now the other item..A XIGMATEKHDTS1283 is giving me a bit of a fit,but it could of been my install..

 Let me explain..I have an e8400 and I looked on the site as to how to apply Arctic5..

 I applied it in one long line down the center of the chip lined as it should be..Now the copper pipes "look" much bigger than the cpu so what I did was I put 2 other small lines on the chip as well so that they would cover the whole chip.I did this once then picked it up to see what it looked like,and it did not totally cover the whole chip,and some of the coper pipes on the XIGMA did not have A5 on them totally,especially torwards the side pipes..

 My question is..Do I need to make sure that a SMALL amount is covering the whole chip??
Ack has one of these and some of you others may also,and so I am asking..How do I apply the A5 to this?? it is running OK,but I should be able to get better cooling..

 Maybe I need to get an After Market 120mm to put on it as this one that came with it only goes to 1500RPM..???

  I got the bolt down kit and it went without a hitch..I am very pleased with it...but I KNOW I can get the temps down even more,or at least I should be able too..

 PS..forgot to add,under orthos load the cores are averaging about 3-4c degree difference..

I believe you applied too much A5 to the CPU.  Too much thermal grease can not transfer the heat away from the cpu.  A thin vertical line just like the directions show is ideal coverage.  It does not need to cover the whole chip and what you call the chip is just a heatshield for the cores underneath it.

ANd that one line fulmar will only cover ONE copper pipe on the cooler.It may touch the other copper pipes but I doubt it will cover them like it will the one in the middle..So I am guessing that ONE in the middle over the cores is the one I need to be concerned about..?

I always heard or read that it should be the size of a BB. Then just twist the heatsink a little when you install.

I can only imagine Arctic Silver's company has this down to a science.  I wouldn't second guess their recommendation.

You are worried about the CPU.   Cooler doesn't matter in this instance.   Put the single line like I did.   With AH2 up and WMP I'm at 41 C under "full load".

OK,I figured out the problem with my CPU temps...I was SET-UP!!!!

  IN BIOS I change the multiplier to say..370and of course multiplier of 9..


 I suddenyl get this RED FLASHING WARNING which says..VOLTAGE NOT OPTIMIZED,so I am thinking,it is in manual and it is at 1.225v..It wants to OPTMIZE my VOLTAGE for me,how cool,I have a SMART-MOBO..HEH!!!I let it go to auto,and hit f-10 save and it reboots..when it comes back online and I go into bios,the temps are A HIGH 48c or so..and I am thinking WHAT IN THE WORLD,they were just sitting idle at 32c..

 You know what I am thinking yet??? I am thinking,THIS NEW COOLER IS NOT DOING ITS JOB...

 Then I look around and dig a bit deeper into the BIOS,What do you think I found which was OPTIMIZED???HEH!!!..My voltage is being optimized by my awesome MOBO to 1.524..

  Now I am learning..so I go in and change my VOLATGE CONTROL to MANUAL..andit goes back down to 1.225..ANd you know what else goes down,yup my TEMPS....

 NOw at 370X9,I am running at 3.34 GHZ and temps are 32c..under load,it gets about 40/44c.....

                             OK,so I am a bit slow..forgive me...

With the new chi.. err CPU installed and the cpu running at 3.344 ghz under full load my temperatures are 44 c and 40c respectively. The fan is at 2160 rpms. Looks like everthing is working like it should.

I ran orthos for 11 minutes.

Like you falcon, it was a pain. I had to pull the MB out. I knew that going in because of the large Zalman cooler. One good thing was that I found the bar that allowed the Zalman to be bolted to the cpu housing. That is a much more secure setup than the latch.

After going into bios for about 30 min or so,I am stable at 3.6..

Took upping the voltage a few times,but it finally stabilized..Idle 33c..load is 47/49c.

I believe so getback..I know many things load MUCH quicker than they did before..

 I tore into my rig again today to adjust the fan on the cooler,and while I did so,I redid the AC5 and reseated the  cooler,temps currently at 32 idle,and 42/45 under load..

 4.0...here I come..maybe as soon as tommorrow..and I got my ram in sync...
