Which is why, as a military historian by trade, I never use someone's drawings unless I know the provenance of the research materials he'she uses. Modern-day warbirds, especially flying examples and not preserved museum types, are often mispainted.
In this case, I used the profile done by noted P-47 historian Chris Sherland, along with original photos of the actual aircraft.
You'll also notice in all the images that Tony posted, that some show the aircraft with a tail fillet, some don't, and the positioning of the lettering on the side with reference to fore-and-aft is also different. Even the squadron tail colors on the modern warbird are incorrect.
You guys don't know me from Adam, but I've been involved in historical aviation, including aircraft recovery and restoration, for years. Although I'm not as gifted in the electronic side of creating skins, I certainly have the historical background and references (about 3000 books) in the library.
When I first start playing, I was stoked to learn we could 'repaint' (as it was called back in the CFS days). Then I found that Roger and Greebo have already done most of the prettiest aircraft, so I'll just have to get into the archives (10,000+ photos too) and see what other colorful aircraft I can come up with.
