It is not a constant.  They only start shutting down connections to non-standard ports when the network starts getting crowded so they can have enough bandwidth available for the VoIP calls.

You may not be effected at all today, but then get hit hard tomorrow.

What they are doing insures unstable connections to the game.  There is no way around it yet.

How is my connect?   I've yet to have a disco since about 3 weeks ago.   Just wondering if my AT&T DSL connection is good.   I refuse to pay $50 a month for RoadRunner.  I know too many folks who have it and wish they didn't have it.

While I'm no expert, that looks pretty good to me "K". The speed of your connection isn't that important ( though a tin can and string might really suck   :D ), it's the consistency. Even if your pinging at 100ms, as long as it stays steady and doesn't keep jumping all over the place you'll be good. I try to live by the "kiss" rule, Keep It Simple Stupid !  If your not having any trouble, don't change it. New isn't always better, if it works, don't screw it up by trying to fix what isn't broken.

NEARY, open the phone book to the yellow pages, and look for internet services. You'll find a number of people in your area that provide internet service. Make a list and check them out on line. See if there are complains listed.

New twist. It seems that the connection problems only affect certain arenas. I haven't checked them all but I have gone back and forth between MA orange/blue and the DA. In the MA I'm not on long enough for the roster to completely populate (multiple attempts) but when I switch over to the DA I'm on for as long as I want to stay connected. When I switch back, same problem.

So this network shaping affects the connection to specific hosts?

Not specific hosts.  It could be port related though.  It could also be the longer it takes to populate the game data, the worse the problem will be.  Hard to know exactly what Comcast is doing there as they will not tell anyone the entire story behind thier network scheme.

It could also be resource related.  The bigger arenas will require more resources of the computer.  If they cannot be made available quick enough you will lose your connection to the arena.

Do you have background skin downloads enabled?  Turn it off.  Try reducing the "Maximum Texture Size" to 128 and see what happens.  Turn off preloading of system textures.  These are all big resource users.

Done.

The only change is now if I go to the hanger and try to select something, I get booted. I can log on and fly around/fight all I want.

I also see the file video8.cfg I believe. It was recommended to delete this file somewhere on these boards and it used to stop the spinning clipboard. Now it seems to load whenever I sign on.....?

Ditto with Comcast problem.  Ready to go to DSL, as it sure as heck can't be worse and it's a 1/3 the price.

Well, it looks like the FCC is going to force Comcast to stop altering connections over their service.  Not sure what impact that will have as Comcast claims they are doing it to help improve available bandwidth.

May depend on the existing contract with the VoIP company they have, which is possibly why this all started.

I hope the FCC follows through Skuzzy...I've already filed a few detailed complaints with them about Comcast.  Not one disco from HTC in 2 years, now in the last 6 months it's been continuous.  It's amazing my monitor hasn't suffered from "fisticosus"!
