P51 gunfighter
« on: July 26, 2008, 08:43:42 AM »
I have an old CB750 that I'm transforming into a cafe racer. Rather than doing the usuall rat rod black primer, I'll make a "gunfighter" inspired paint scheme. I looked on the net and could not find a profile drawing. I'm also wondering about the FG/FS, it's my understanding it's the 55FG.

Would someone gime a crash course in 55FG, as well as the various FS and their colors? Other aircrafts pics from the 55FG would be appreciated too.

Ty in advance :D

GunFighter is not an actual 55th bird.  Retired General Reg Urschler owns it and named it gunfighter.  It carries a 55th FG paint scheme and his nose art name.

This is a profile of a 55th FG bird i did a while back.  This particular 51 was bellied in on a French beach and forgotten.  The remains were recovered and are the basis for a restoration going on in England.

Great, thank you. Not that I have a profound interest in the 55FG, but I thought it would be a nice scheme for my bike. I do have my own noseart to put on anyway. The checker/front spiner green was a lighter green, or was it olive grab like the rest of the fuse? I'm going to photoshop this profile and put it on my RPM guage face plate. (Guages are dark green/ yellow on the CB750).

I'll put a checker band going vertically on the speedo, and the profile of the pony on the tach. Something different :) The front checker will be on the front of the headlight. The gas tank will be oliver on the top, red stripe curving from high to low, and the bottom part alluminum polished. Cafe racer tail will be olive, with #59 on it. Runing along the top of gas tank/cafe seat will be the yellow checker. Rims will be dark yellow to recall the yellow rudder. Meh ... can actually look even good, as long as it's not a cafe primer black with red rims. :lol Anyway, that's my week end project for a lil bit, a cheap homemade cafe racer.

In the 56FG, the last letter (CL-P) was usually the first letter of the last name of the pilot. Do u know if it was the case in the 55FG?
