New idea for enemy icons

1 - For the fighters:
Just no enemy icons at all from 0 to 400 yards for enemy fighters, and from 0 to 1000 yards for enemy bombers/transports.

2 - For the bombers:
Just no enemy icons from 0 to 1000 yards for enemy fighters or bombers/transports. 1000 yards to compensate the external views and the hability to maintain max zoom all the time while shooting (try to use max zoom in a fighter for a whole dogfight   ).

At these distances the enemy planes are clearly visible and dont need icons. Only friendly icons should remain as they are.

Icons are here to stay, and HTC members have said it quite many times.

Still, if we cant get rid of the icon at all, at a given distance,I'd vote to get rid of the distance information under 500yards for EVERYTHING and show it in increments of 100yards between 500-1K.

I could go with RAM's suggestion.  Its simple, but I think it would improve things.

In RL you can see clearly whether a plane is aproaching or going away from 500 to 1k, but not in the pixel world. IMO, this is just the range where it is necessary some kind of aid to help the players to determine the relative speed of an enemy plane. I prefer showing a relative speed (rounded to 5 mph) than the actual range.


In the other hand, the pixel world is precise enough to get rid of distance/relative speed and plane type indicators under 400 yards. So, better to get rid of any enemy icon from 0 to 400.

In a mixed arena you still need some kind of IFF. But even friendly icons with the current size and info clutter things up a bit IMO.

I do think we could probably do away with range info inside of 1k and only give it in 1k or .5k increments after that.
 
There are some great alternative icon threads; many good suggestions have been made.

I hope someday we get to try a few out.

Undoubtedly we eventually WILL be able to try out alternative icon suggestions.

I very much doubt we'll be able to do it in Aces High though.  Whilst HT is a genius at taking other peoples ideas and making them better, he's hardly what you would call an 'innovator'.

That's why we're still flying in an AW-style arena, with AW-style icons!

Just a short note, Fighter Ace Advanced room has a total icon free enviroment.

But at all there u can already judge the enemies path and speed from about 3000 feet. At this distance, the planes start to have wings and tails.

And for sure it great to rely on ur own eyes only.

Ive got to say i do think no icons is fun for a while but not everyday for me.
I'll happily play scenarios with this sort of set up but everyday straining to distinguish a planes direction by sight alone? jeez we'll all end up with damaged eyes!  
If you want this stuff host a scenario or snaphot or check 6.If enough people want it you will be in a better position to ask for these sort of major changes i think.
