Alright, google has failed me once again...

Does anyone know what date the U.S. Public first became aware of the Doolittle Raid? I cannot find any news articles first announcing it...

Can't say for certain but seeing as it was done more to boost morale and shock the Japs then inflict any sort of major damage I would think it was announced right away.

Same here, but the only articles I can find are rememberances of the event from decades later.

Try and find someplace that has an archive of old newspapers, possibly the local library even on microfiche.  Start with the day after the raid and work up, as long as it got announced somewhat quickly it shouldn't be hard to find.  I would imagine that was front page news.

Yeah, I seem to recall stumbling on a headline somewhere in my life with something like

TOKYO BOMBED!

blaring on the front, but I don't recall where. I dont have time to hit a library, I was just hoping someone here might know, otherwise I will just have to leave that sentence out of my paper.

you can't find them because they're being re-written. they just found new information proving that the airmen that were previously thought killed in the raid did in fact survive. they will be back up soon :noid :noid

i was taking lead from the BOB thread where they've been discovering that the raf wasn't hurting as badly as they were, and remembering that the winners write the history.

and of course being completley sarcastic, and joking too!!! :rofl :rofl :rofl :D

I was gonna say, that sounded like (No offense) Boroda's "Americans rewrite history to make themselves look better" line.
