another useless ack complaint
« on: July 27, 2008, 06:33:01 PM »
If carrier puffy ack could hit fighters almost over the horizon the way it does here then fighters would never have been built.  The Kamikazes would have been no threat either.  Completely ridiculous accuracy.

If they make it too weak people will be complaining about their CV's dying so easily. Learn to live with it.

Nothing wrong with CV ack at realistic ranges, I'm all for it. But when it can nail you doing 300mph and the CV is out of sight 10km away or  through hills is pushing the boundaries of realistic ack and more towards 60s tech SAMs.

 :rofl

Does anyone else have this? When I explode from puffy ack, my headphones play the sound of the 5" gun exploding so loud, I feel I was 2cm away from the barrel when the shot went off. Its ridiculous and adds more annoyance to an already stupid puffy ack death.

over the horizon? thats exaggeration...

puffy auto ack wont hit you if youre under 3000 ft, which is closer to the horizon :)

manned 5" will.. and i pop ppl with 5" outside of icon range on a regular basis.

I drop on fully functional CV groups all the time. I fly around them all the time. Contrary to your post they not only wont hit you on the horizon but wont even begin shooting at you. You have yo be a lot closer then the Horizon for that.

It seems lately that at least once a week someone gets their perked plane shot up by a CV when they fly to close to it and they complain here. Well, I got news for you. CVG guns shooting proximity shells were fearsome weapons in actual war. Most of all the 5"'s.

If anything its under modeled in the game. If I remember right the 5" guns had an effective range of 10 miles for AA work.

Personal and repeating experience with ack shooting and killing me from max distance. It seems it's always that last shot that gets me before i'm out of max range.

BTW, once it tags you you can't get away until your well out of range. if you go below 3 k it stops shooting but as soon as you pop up  it's all over you again no mater who is higher or closer. It's been my experience with it anyway. Multi films would not be a problem.

It seems that puffy ack can hit a 262, Pony, or any fighter flying above 300 mph pulling high G maneuvers while dogfighting another plane. yet, somehow it can't hit the slow large bombers coming in to sink it.

Though thats just what I've seen.  :)

The bombers flying level could be dealt with if people flew CAP the way their supposed to but no one does or at least not often enough. The bombers that dive on the cv are a pain. I wish they acted like the B25s do in a dive and would lock up and lose parts and veer off course then maybe that would end the dive bombing lancs. To avoid the puffy ack I just ty to keep distance from the cv and then if it never starts shooting at me I wont get hit. There seems to be a threshold that once exceeded makes the ack lock onto you. But why is the ack at factories different or does it just seem that way? I mean fleet ack shoots at more than a single con right?

For instance today I had a spit and a 51 chasing me and I thought the 51 wanted to hit the city near our vehicle field so I headed that way in a shallow climb (the idea being to get to a point where the spit would lose performance and break off). The ack started firing at the 51 but never fired at the spit. When the 51 went into his dive I followed and below 5k the ack hit me but I kept after him and he was toast when he dropped his ord too low. So I started to grab again with this spit after me and just as the ack started to fire at him my plane slowed to the point where I could turn inside the spit and I went into the shallow diving turn required to maintain the cornering edge. Ack never hit either one of them that I could tell. The spit freaked when I turned inside of him pulled up and was an easy target but again the ack hit me and not him!

Gotta back you up on your observations here.  I sink Cv's with 234's and B26's and I have lost 1 bomber to CV auto puffy ack in the last 12 months.  On the other hand I have lost countless fighters.  Been blasted out the sky at 3,100 all the way up to 17k.  I just don't understand how a box of bombers can get through yet a small nippy little plane gets hammered.

I second that.
Many a times my squad is flying formation transit and one of us gets targeted by puffy ack. We scatter a bit and the guy just can't get away from it no matter what he does at altitude, and the others can fly along just fine and dandy. It's ridiculous. CV ack is just as annoying, your flying along a stretch of water with no clue whats to the left of you at close to max range distance and blows you out of the sky with the second or third shot, or your wing off, or your engine.

I see myself one day in a 262 cruising around, and a friendly in bombers, he was closer to the CV than me, I was taking the ack. Finally he started taking the ack, and got in and out with no damage, but missed the CV. Then the ack went back to be and killed me while I was going 450IAS+ and maneuvering quite well.

This has been my experience also. If i'm in a fighter I get nailed 50% of the time. In bombers I don't got a scratch.
